Reviews for Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare

Kempinski Seychelles aims to play top league and charges premium prices, doesn't deliver though...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

First off, this is not 5* level. Nice, but certainly not stellar. Kempinski should do better, especially as it is dead easy to make this an amazing place. Issues: Rooms: suites only facing lagoon, other rooms with sea view are rather small and seem a bit dated. Food: average, apart from prices. E.g., 90 USD for a lunch (Penne tomato sauce, cesar salad, 4 pieces of nigiri, and bottle still water). Taste was OK. A bottle Heineken zero sets you back 15 USD hehee. Flair: People dropping their towels on the sunbeds in the morning! Yes, like the cheapest all-inclusive joint in Hurgada ;) WTH? Evening entertainment is a bit sterile Other: They got a promotion of their 'ladies in red' (a bit sleezy honestly) with Bottega Champagne. Everywhere they throw this in your face, it seems cheap and needy. If you charter a helicopter they take 300 USD for landing here. Petty, this should be free. Beach: rather like a 3* place and not private, looks like any ordinary joint Context: 1 week spontaneous trip with my 17yo daughter. I am Ambassador with Marriott, Gold with Kempinski, been to 60+ countries and go from safari camping to 5* in Dubai.

Not what I expected!!

Sorry this is not 5 star ! It is a resort and on a lovely beach which can be very shallow so be warned - the rooms are comfortable but not near 5 star - you are in a compound with no access to a village or anything walkable so you have to take taxis to go anywhere or rely on the hotels food - the breakfast is a normal buffet but not exciting - windsong which is the beach restaurant is only barely passable for food with a limited selection - the nightly theme night in the main restaurant is like a food hall buffet unappetising and noisy - people don’t bother and turn up In the restaurants in their swim shorts ! the staff are obviously nice people but totally untrained so getting anything is a struggle - this is not like other kempinsky resorts I know - it has lost the gleam and is soul less -

Needs a lot of attention

I stayed very recently for 5 nights. Check in: Amazing and informative. The welcome drink is fantastic! Ladies in red always helpful and on the ball throughout the stay. Room and Housekeeping: Was a bit far from the beach whilst others were much closer. Very humid and almost like the AC didn't make much of a difference. The back door leading to the garden/beach, had a gap, which is where all the heat came in from. There's a dehumidifier which housekeeping nearly never emptied. They come twice a day and I had to empty that thing 4 days. The bed is the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on. I don't think any of the management tested these out. The pillows were truly awful. There's mosquito netting around the bed, although I didn't see the need for it. It was frankly just annoying and always in the way. Housekeeping also don't clean it, as there were two dead bugs sleeping on the top part of the net for days. The sofa and curtains haven't been washed probably since the beginning. My tissues ran out on the first night and was never replenished. The face towels were taken after the first morning of cleaning and returned on my last day. The AC controller sheds so much light at night that it's hard to sleep. My room was located on the ground floor next to a outdoor phone and staircase. This proved to be very loud and annoying. Whenever someone used the phone, I felt like they're were right next to my bed! F&B: I was on half board. Breakfast was amazing except for one Saturday when it was mayhem. People queuing for seats and the staff had no idea how to help. Why have 1 or 2 people sit on a table of 4?? Split the tables. The poor person handling the egg station that day had no help and I got my omelette when I was about to leave. One morning the latte was perfect and the next day, half full. Dinners are themed and always great. Only water included and the other drinks were over priced. As another reviewer said, they rape you with the prices. When you do day tours that leave super early, the hotel will pack you a breakfast box. Frankly, this box is a rip off and not worth the money you pay. I got one also on my morning of departure. So two mornings where I got robbed with a small breakfast when you pay for a buffet. Tortoises: I saw three in what seemed to be a super tiny enclosure. Wasn't clean either. Frankly, you can do better here!! Pool area and bar: The pool is open till 7pm, and yet the staff subconsciously chase people away at 5pm by turning all the sunbed mattresses upside down. The moment you lift your bum, they're next to you to turn yours upside down too. Why?? Sunbeds along beach: Very good spots. And staff even bring free ice lemon water. This was great. Staff: I read in many reviews that staff aren't greeting or friendly. I had a different experience. They were all friendly and helpful. I must also add respectful whilst you were in your swim costume. No uncomfortable stares or glares from them. I found them all professional. And honestly if not for the terrible bed, I'd be back just for the staff. There was a gentleman who handles the Le Petit Chef experience (forgot his name). He's so helpful and professional that if I owned a restaurant, I'd have offer him a job there and then. I say this as there was one table who did not seem happy and he handled them so well and calmly. Spa: Didn't get to use it as the prices are extreme. I live in Dubai and they're even more expensive than Dubai. Property: Huge! Great for walking. Fauna and flora is amazing!! So much greenery and beautiful birds. The beach is nice for a walk but not so good for swimming. But still beautiful and clean. Departure: I was surprised to see 3 other couples at the airport from the hotel, all on the same plane as me. The hotel assisted with transport from the hotel to airport which was Rupees 1000. Why didn't the hotel put all of us in a mini bus instead? Seems the staff at reception may have some sort of deal going on with these taxi guys to make money?
