For the ultimate in California dreaming, check into Shade Hotel. Located in laid back Manhattan Beach, a coastal community of Los Angeles, this stylish boutique hotel was listed as the #6 reason to visit LA by the editors of Condé Nast Traveler. It also landed on the magazine's prestigious Hot List, as one of only 19 US properties to make the cut. But a rendezvous at Shade has as much to do with attitude as it does comfort. The rooms alone make quite a statement with a lighting system known as chromotherapy that color-customizes your surroundings and alters your mood with the flick of a switch. The shoji-screened baths provide an organic feel with two-person spa tubs, soothing showers and luxe linens. When color cannot provide the necessary jolt, play the part of barista by toying with your in-room espresso machine. Other unconventional perks include a Pillow Library and complimentary Beach Breakfast Buffet.

Every amenity in the room was First Class. A pleasant experience from the amenities to your great team from the parking attendant to front desk to restaurant staff. I intended on visiting a new friend and enjoyed our meeting initially in your Zinc restaurant. Classy staff and experiences!!

I am devastated that we had to cancel our trip to the Shade due to the fires and air quality in LA. I called to cancel the reservation two days before our arrival but inside the 72 hour cancellation window. I was disappointed that the hotel held firm to their cancellation policy and charged the cancellation fee. I understand this is their policy but nevertheless there are circumstances outside our control. I will certainly never consider staying at their hotel again. My advice - pay close attention to their clauses and don’t expect any help from the curt front desk agents.

We paid for a suite that didn’t have any of the amenities working. The LED lights, the steam shower, the beer tap all weren’t working. Not worth the expensive price and the hotel didn’t try to accommodate for these issues. Staff at front desk is also very rude and continued to call the room before quiet hours in the hotel began. Beautiful room but would never return here.

Lovely room. Great location near Manhattan Beach Pier, shops, and The Strand. We did not get to enjoy the little pool or Skydeck due to lousy weather, but it should be nice on warm sunny days. Parking was quite convenient with nearby on-street meters or in the garage next to the hotel.

Fresh and clean, well appointed, comfortable, newly remodeled room with terrific room service. The one downside was a loud Christmas party event that we only learned about after check in. The event essentially shut down all common spaces and the courtyard. The music was incredibly loud, as suggested it would be, but came along with screaming lyrics from the guests in attendance. So much so that we had difficulty hearing our own devices in our room. But to the DJ’s credit, he did end the music promptly at 10pm sharp. (Unfortunately this was essentially 1am our time, and we hadn’t yet acclimated from our East coast time zone.)
