Reviews for Los Altos Resort

We loved Los Altos

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 hours ago

Los Atos was a beautiful resort! All of the staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The service was excellent ! The staff helped us with reservations for excursions , restaurant reservations and had transportation waiting on us whenever we needed it. The massage and facial treatment through the resort spa was among the best we have ever experienced! Our condo was very clean, spacious, comfortable and with beautiful views.

Nice property but lots of issues - wouldn't stay again.

We expected to love this place. The setting is beautiful, however, there are a lot of flaws. The first three days we were at the hotel there was construction going on at the end of the pool - loud construction. The first morning, I went out on the balcony with coffee and all I could hear was the gas powered leaf blower that went on for well over an hour. My husband was swimming laps and said he kept breathing in carbon monoxide. We went down to the private beach and lo and behold an hour after we got there, yet another leaf blower. I asked the bartender if he could please ask him to stop. He said the person wasn't with Los Altos. Apparently, the advertised "private beach" isn't really private because there are two other property owners within 50 ft. The bartender took pity on us and asked the guy to stop, which he did and proceed to get his rake out. On top of the issue with the noise, our suite smelled like sewage. Not damp, not musty, but sewage. My husband asked them to look at it while we were at the beach. They tried to fix the issue, which seemed centered on the 1/2 bath, but couldn't, so they moved us to another suite. We think they knew there was a problem because there was a big dehumidifier in the laundry room and a sizable hole cut in the drywall, which our 2nd suite didn't have, and some of the doors couldn't open all the way because the floors were warped. They also told us twice, on our way to the first room, that this is "one of our nicest rooms". They are all the same and the 2nd room had a slightly better view. Lastly, the biggest issue is security. The elevator door opens into the suite. At first I thought it was cool, like we were in a city penthouse. The problem, though, is that anyone in the elevator basically comes into your room. I thought it was a fluke the first time because both of the 7th floor rooms needed the elevator at the same time so one side of the elevator opened up on our suite and the other side opened on theirs. We all laughed thinking it was just weird timing. Nope, if someone is in the elevator and you hit the button it will stop and open the door to your suite. Someone we spoke with said a mom and her kid got off of the elevator into their suite thinking they were in the lobby. If you're riding up with someone and your room is first they can basically come right in. The elevator card only allows you to pick your own room but it doesn't stop anyone else from getting on or off. This also means any cleaning staff ends up right in your room because there is no door for them to knock on. There was no way to securely lock the suite, which is surprising. I will say that the staff was absolutely fantastic, especially the bartender at the beach and the hysterical guy that drives the truck back and forth to the private beach (my inability to remember names shows here).

Costa Rica at it’s finest!

First time to Costa Rica. My wife and 3 adult sons and our neighbor and her 2 adult sons. All of the places we stayed had great customer service and attention to detail. The people of Costa Rica seem genuinely happy to show you their world. Alex and the rest of the staff at Los Altos were even better! Attention to every detail and need. Other recent reviews hit the highlights of personal shuttles around the grounds, “location, location, location”, secluded beach, animals, and the wonderful free breakfasts ( they ordered ahead one day when our excursion was leaving just after opening time so we could eat right at 6:30am. Also our departure was at 6am and they had box lunches sent up the night before so we could heat and eat before leaving!)

Luxury with best view!

First time trip to CR and I wanted luxury combined with chance to visit forests and beach. I adore the private beach. It offers shade, seclusion, amazing sunsets, and Rolbin, the best bartender/Costa Rica ambassador. Pool is lovely. Rooms are large and well-appointed. They may not be quite Four Seasons level plush, but they feel more authentic and in most ways are 5 star. The staff is 5-star plus! Thank you, David, for helping make our vacation fabulous! Karolas restaurant is amazing. They will also pack breakfast boxes if you have early excursions or early drive to airport. Note that the drive can take 4 hours in traffic. Worth the drive, and they can arrange transportation. Manuel Antonio is fantastic hillside village with great views and really good restaurants. I can't wait to go back to Los Altos and see the new spa!

LOOK NO FURTHER!! 5 STARS BEST LOCATION

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We had an amazing family vacation at Los Altos. Our garden suite was nearly 2600sq ft with well appointed furnishings and amenities. The staff attention to detail is unprecedented. The front desk staff including Sebastian, Gustavo and others made our entire family feel welcome and appreciated. For example, I wanted to take the bus into Quepos and back from Espadilla beach (not a taxi) and Sebastian “walked me through the process”. I needed this since I do not speak Spanish. He made sure I had the correct amounts of colones etc. This is just one example of many instances where the staff went above and beyond for our family. Our son celebrated his birthday during our trip and unbeknownst to us, a personalized birthday cake was delivered to our suite in celebration. What a nice touch. The LOCATION CAN’T BE BEAT! The resort is manned 24/7 with gated security. Immediately out of the resort are countless restaurants and cafes, tourist shops, ice cream shop, super market, ATM and bus stop directly in front of the resort all of which you can safely walk to. All of these locations I describe are < 5 minutes walk from your room on the resort….it couldn’t be a better location!! This is highly unusual to have this much accessibility in Manuel Antonio. We had many excursions arranged prior to our arrival but once again the front staff helped us arrange additional activities and provided us recommendations on dining options as well. The pool has breathtaking views and wonderful service from the poolside bar and cafe. You’ll likely see monkeys, iguanas and agoutis on property during your stay which was delightful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND LOS ALTOS. 5 out of 5 STARS!
