Disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This was a definitely one and done for me and my family. We paid for the all inclusive package, with a premium suite and I was very disappointed. To start off when we first arrived they handed me my all inclusive bracelet witch is also your key card, when we got to our suite the bracelet could not activate the door to unlock, they said it was because they recently changed all the door knobs therefore some of them jam up, so through out my 3 days here sometimes my bracelet would unlock the door and sometimes it would not, it was a huge inconvenience On one of the days we were in our room my 3 year old and 2 year old daughter were taking a bath and spilled a lot of water in to the floor, we needed towels to clean up the mess so I walked out and saw the cleaning ladies in the hall way with a cart full of fresh towels, I asked them if I can have a couple and they said no because they are not allowed too. When you first arrive they give you 4 plastic cards, these are basically your tickets to receive 4 towels, but every time you need a new towel you have to go all the way down to the pool area and give them a card for a towel or swap an old towel for a new towel, again it was a huge inconvenience. One morning my family was eating breakfast at the buffet, when I walked in to join them they kicked me out because my shirt was sleeveless, so I had to go back to my room on the 6th floor on the opposite side of the hotel to change, I respect the rules but to my surprise when I came back to the buffet I noticed many women in the restaurant wearing thong bikinis, they all had covers over their swim suites but they were sheer so you can still see right through it, and I think it’s ridiculous that they allow that but my sleeveless tshirt was a problem Another situation that really bothered me, we had been swimming all day for 7 hours on the beach and in the pool, so of course my 2 year old had build up a huge appetite and started crying relentlessly, so I walked down to the snack bar by the pool and grabbed a plate of French fries for her to calm her hunger, as I was walking back a worker stopped me and said we were not allowed to bring food from the snack bar to the pool, I replied that we were done swimming and were heading to the room to eat the fries, my daughter is crying because she is really hungry and than he said we’re not allowed to bring food out of the snack bar area period, he didn’t care about my daughters hunger. One night we wanted toom service, on their room service menu it clearly says kitchen is open till 11, after 11 you can only order from a snack menu, we called at 10:40 and they basically told us kitchen closes at 10:30 so the only thing available is the snack menu, I pleaded with her saying the menu says kitchen closes at 11 but they just refused too cook what we we’re requesting, so at that point I asked for a couple of cheese cakes because that is at the snack menu, but than she replied that the bakery did not cook any cheesecake that day. So basically you here the work NO a lot, we hear more “no’s” than “yes” and for the money that we spent it almost feels disrespectful, because I don’t believe that we were asking for anything crazy. This was a very expensive stay and honestly there is so many other cheaper resorts that go out of their way to meet your desires, but here it’s not like that at all. And this last one is for my beer drinkers, the only beer that is available at all the pools and restaurants is dos x and dos x light. There is no modelo and no corona, that was a huge bummer for me because modelo and corona are my go to beers, and when you pay for a very expensive all inclusive resort I would definitely expect more than 2 beer choices, there is a small shop with in the hotel that sells coronas in the can, but of course it’s a shop so you have to buy them. I think it’s crazy that a hotel in Mexico does not offer modelo or corona, you would think they would have that stocked up but they don’t. I highly recommend everyone to spend their money somewhere else, this was a one and done for me

Very Disappointing Experience — Not Worth the Price

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

My fiancé’s family and I came to Barceló Karmina expecting a step up in quality since many of us have stayed at several other resorts before. Unfortunately, this has been the worst resort experience we’ve had so far, especially considering the price. Throughout our stay it felt like the answer to almost everything was simply “no.” Many items listed on the menu were unavailable, the alcohol selection seemed limited, and some staff members didn’t seem to know how to make certain drinks. One of the most frustrating situations happened when we went to dinner. There are 9 people in our group, including 4 children under 5, and we were told they could not combine tables because they only had round tables that seat five people. For a resort that hosts families and groups, this lack of flexibility was extremely disappointing. Restaurant reservations were also completely booked, even though we tried to make them immediately upon arrival and check-in. The one dinner reservation we were able to get wasn’t even the restaurant we originally wanted. To make matters worse, that dinner took an extremely long time, and our orders were messed up multiple times even after correcting the staff at least seven times. At one point, a staff member came over asking if we were waiting on dessert, when we hadn’t even received our meals yet. We also had issues with our room door not working, and very little explanation was given about how to use the resort amenities or where things were located. While you can eventually figure things out, for the price you pay at a resort like this you expect much better service and communication. Our entire group is staying in premium suites, and compared to other resorts we’ve visited, there are very few additional amenities or upgraded service options that normally come with that level of room. Overall, this experience has been very disappointing, and unfortunately we would not recommend this resort and will not be returning.

Beautiful Resort; shame about the food...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We are currently staying at the resort in a Premier suite. The grounds are gorgeous, the suite is perfect. The place is very clean and the servers are fantastic. We would be back again and again except the food is NOT good. The breakfast buffet is lovely. The lunch grill (other than the seafood grill) is horrible. We have survived on fries at the beach grill and the nibbles in the premier lounge. We have had zero issues booking reservations for the 3 restaurants (only one is open per night) But the food is not worth the effort. There is ZERO guacamole at this resort other than room service. NOT EVEN THE MEXICAN RESTAURANT HAS GUACAMOLE??! We have decided to cut our losses and leave the resort for dinner the next 3 nights.
