A disappointing stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This is not up to the standard of a 5* hotel, we have stayed in better 3* hotels and we would not stay here again. The Hotel has a legal injunction against it which means many of the facilities cannot be used at present. This means all meals are taken in the small café bar with annexe, and breakfast outside by the pool when the weather is good enough. When a large party arrived during the last 2 days of our stay, the room was simply not big enough and we were relegated to the annexe which was very cold in the evenings. Although the staff coped as best they could our experience at dinner was poor, we felt as though we were imposing. The food was not buffet style, but a ready plated meal, huge portions, which were just too big and a lot was left and wasted. There was a choice of about 4 starters, mains and desserts. The 4 dessert choices were the same every night with no variety. The choice of food at breakfast was wide ranging and tasty. Drinks were very expensive, 7.50 Euros for a glass of wine in a country which produces wine. The room we had was comfortable enough but as mentioned in other reviews all facilities are quite old and run-down, the hotel needs a massive overhaul. When we arrived the safe did not work and our balcony door would not lock, these were sorted immediately. We had a sea view which was lovely, the bed was comfortable and it was very quiet so we slept well. The cleaning service was excellent. On the whole most of the staff were friendly and accommodating. Position of the hotel is lovely, not far along the coast path to Puerto Banus for shops, and a lovely coastal walk in the opposite direction towards San Pedro del Alcantar. It is easy to get public transport or taxi to Marbella and Estepona, both worth visiting.

Friendly hotel close to town.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The staff were really friendly and professional. They gave a family feel to the hotel. They had a situation with some restaurant closures but still managed to give everyone a very good breakfast with all choices of cooked breakfast, continental meats, fruits etc. We had half board as found it easier with a family and the food was very good. Our rooms were fine, comfortable bed. We came last year and that time we had a suite with its own lounge area which was better, but this time we booked very late so couldn’t get that. The hotel is next to the beach and 15 mins walk to the town. So easy to get to the town but also far away enough to be quiet. Nice walk in the other direction for longer stroll along the coast. Some people we spoke to said they had been coming for many years - one couple said for 18 years - so that says a lot. Happy to go back again.

Comfortable but dated!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Stayed here last week for five nights. Positives: - the location is great with easy access to the beach, walking distance to Puerto Banus, a quick cab ride to Marbella town & yet in a tranquil sea-facing spot - the staff is mostly polite, courteous & helpful. Helped with a late checkout & patient with questions - booked a junior suite but upgraded to superior upon check in for €100/3 nights. The suite was spacious, with a large sea facing balcony/deck. Not so great: - the overall look & hotel itself is a bit dated, with electrical fittings that were almost falling out in the room - a lot of the facilities are closed, many due to a legal case & some due to the season like beach beds were unavailable - all meals were served in a small cafe by the reception which felt dark, dingy & cooped up vs a spacious restaurant. The cafe felt like a forced one crammed into a small make shift place. - the food for the most part was good but could’ve had more variety for bfast buffet & dinner option.

Breaking winter darkness in Banus

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The terrace of my room facing the mediteranean sea and south was extremely convenient to relax comfortably in the winter sun! It's simply magic to avoid wind and the season's freshness with a great feeling! Very cool experience which I recommend in Gran Hotel Guadalpin Banus Superior rooms.

Great hotel for Feb break.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Just returned from Gran Guadalpin for 7 nights. February weather amazing. Hotel staff lovely. Really chatty and welcoming. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite because our lock on our patio door was broken on our Superior Double. Junior Suite was fab with massive terrace and stunning views of pool and sea. Breakfast lovely with chef cooking all types of eggs also lovely pancakes, massive array of fresh cut fruit and croissants. Lunch food by pool good and reasonable prices. Evening meals good at hotel but there are some lovely restaurants a short walk along the promenade with Puerto Banús a short 15 min walk away and also San Pedro the other direction is about 10 mins walk. Exotica Restaurant in San Pedro lovely. Great staff and food top class. Overlooks the seafront. All in all great trip and lovely weather for February. 21 degrees most days we only had one day of cloud.
