About the Hotel

Umaya Resort Belize, formerly known as the Belize Ocean Club is a beautiful full-service deluxe resort located on a 78-mile peninsula in the southern part of Belize on Maya beach. The resort has rooms overlooking the peaceful lagoon and distant Mayan mountains or overlooking the blue Caribbean Sea. The first of the new dining options, The Clubhouse, is a farm to table restaurant facing the lagoon with sunset mountain views. It offers cuisine rooted in Mayan and Garifuna Belizeans traditions. FYAH, named from the local dialect for fire, presents food cooked over an open flame grill, with both deck and barefoot in the sand seating options for a selection of parrillada and tandoor food. With the largest living barrier reef off its shores, Umaya Resort & Adventures is putting a focus on diving experiences, including the creation of an onsite dive certification program. The management team has also created unique new excursions for adventure travelers both at sea and in the nearby jungles and Mayan ruins of Belize. In addition to the offsite excursions, Umaya Resort & Adventures launched a variety of weekly cultural and gastronomic events such as Beer &Curry Night, serving original Indian dishes prepared by Chef Subu from Chennai as well as Best of Belize, highlighting local Garifuna cuisine and music.

Resort was fine, staff needs work

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The room was fine a little dirty but okay. However, we had ordered a new jug of water at the front desk which never arrived, we asked again for it to be delivered but no one felt responsible. We tried calling the front desk but they didn’t pick up on the room phone or on mobile phone. In the end we called the phone number at the bottom of the website where a customer service agent finally organized for us to receive a new jug of water. Why wasn’t the water replaced during cleaning? I’m not sure. The breakfast buffet was very limited and the dinner was also just average. This place is beautiful but I would not recommend choosing Umaya to stay here. Their facilities seem lacking and the front desk staff are not ready to respond to customer requests.

Recommending this to all my friends

Views! Views!! I felt like I was visiting friends. This is a pristine property on the Caribbean with limitless walks along the beach. Easily accessible, nice swimming pools, lovely staff, spacious guest rooms. I’m recommending it to my friends.

This resort was so well run, I felt like the only guest! The facilities are beautiful and well kept. The beach and poolside was so relaxing and comfortable. Staff were incredibly helpful and always available. The Laguna side was beautiful and so peaceful.

Great stay with friends to see the area.

Location was great on Maya beach With ocean and pool views. We were a little disappointed In a few areas ...our bathroom faucet was not working and they only have one eighty gallon hot water heater for the entire building. We ran out of hot water multiple times. Wasn't a big problem and the faucet was fixed the next day. I do feel the overall staff could use more training. The meals at the restaurant were OK but small portions and limited items. We had a suite With 3 beds and they were all very inconsistent in comfort. For the price I would stay there again but probably choose my dining elsewhere.

Paradise with tons of space

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Where else can you stay with Caribbean ocean on one side of the property and lagoon with island and Mountain View’s on the other? This property looks like something out of the show “White Lotus”, seriously! The grounds, foliage, romantic lights, EXCELLENT restaurants (there are two of them), swim up pool bar… the list goes on and on. Our lagoon side stay was peaceful and we enjoyed the glorious sunsets. We were happy we ended up on the lagoon side because it’s quieter. The rooms are more like big condos/apartments. We were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness! It’s hard to believe you can get a large 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom with such glorious views for such reasonable pricing! Our family had more than enough space. There’s so much to do in Belize and even in close by Placencia village, and you should go out and do things, but it’s hard to leave this awesome property. Our 7 year old son nearly lost his mind fishing off the ocean pier (he made a friend that caught a snapper with a hand line!), and then running across to the lagoon side to try to catch snook. This place is paradise. We will be back!
