W Melbourne with its rebellious Flinders Lane address takes its design cues from the streets of Australia's cultural capital, holding the back-lane entrance keys to what's new/next in the city CBD. Revealing a playground where the early risers to the late-night revellers can turn up the tracks. Extending the laneway culture in, 294 bold hotel rooms and suites peel back the layers and revel in the city's history.

The room layout was confusing, augmented by the black and dark red color motif and very low lighting level. Being in one of the larger rooms saved us from total claustrophobia. And only one chair and a stool in a large hotel room? On the other hand, the pool is warm and bright with a nice view but very narrow, good to swim in only if there is one other swimmer. And no hot tub in a space that was extra large is surprising. We were there on a Sunday night when only the restaurant in the buffet area was open and there was a limited menu. However, the portion sizes were extremely skimpy. Surprised to order swordfish and see it bare without a garnish of vegetable or potato. The buffet breakfast was adequate but we had to search for our omelettes after being told that they would be brought to us. The staff is nice but less helpful than hoped. We were to receive a text message when our room was ready but they forgot. There was an erroneous checkout balance of $94 (there should not have been any balance) that could not be explained and resulted in the gathering of all 4 register clerks around us. Maybe the W's layout and operation is the brainchild of cutting edge architects and designers catering to twenty somethings who expect and demand very little. I am guessing that it will be ultimately and quietly sold off by Marriott, when they realize that it is a poor alternative to their other flagship properties.

We love this hotel. The location is A+, close to everything. The staff is the most attentive, kind and responsive staff we have ever experienced at a hotel. The breakfast is excellent and the room was spacious and thoughfully appointed. Highly recommend staying here - we will be back for sure!

This is one of the best Marriott brand hotels I’ve encountered. The staff are incredibly friendly, especially Shareena. The bath products are wonderful. Lots of attention to detail. The decor seemed loud initially but it makes sense once you settle into the vibe.

Hotel has a great pool to cool off at after a day of tennis action. It is walking distance with great food options close by but equally great options in the hotel.

Very high level of service. It was at a service level i never would have expected in Australia. The staff was very attentitve, helpful and friendly. Room was perfect, location was great. W's always have amazing beds. We were able to walk everywhere. We had stayed at another 5 star hotel in Melbourne on a different trip that wasn't close to this level and was the same price.
