Reviews for DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne - Flinders Street

Great location across from Flinders train station with restaurants, shops and a 7:11 on the corner~

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

It's a great location. Just across from Flinders Street train station. My husband is a volunteer Marshall for F1 and was there for the Melbourne Grand Prix. The train station was convenient which is why he booked there. They gave us some discounts since we were there for 7 days as well as a bottle of wine. They got us ice each day. Beds and pillows comfy, although I travel with my own pillow. Both streets on either side have restaurants and shops. There is a 7:11 on the corner for drinks and snacks. St. Paul's is just a couple of blocks up. They did an evening song service on Sunday, and I wish I had known. I would have gotten there sooner. They have a gift shop. They will call you a cab, which they did for us several times and they came fairly quickly. All in all would recommend for convenient location and proximity to restaurants and some shops. To the left out the front door and next street left is most of restaurants and also an ice cream: gelato shop: Pidapipo. We ate at several of the restaurants and all the food was good. I had breakfast buffet at the DoubleTree two different mornings. All the staff were helpful and accommodating. All considered would recommend and would most likely stay there again if we ever get back.

Great hotel in convenient CBD location and a nice quiet room

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

This was our first stay at this particular DoubleTree and it did not disappoint we had an excellent 2 night stay from start to finish. Conveniently located in the CBD on Flinders Street on the block between Elizabeth & Swanston Streets litterally opposite Flinders Street Station. Perfect location for walking to shops, restaurants, public transport and attractions. All staff we met were welcoming and efficient. On arrival, automatically supplied with 3 room key/cards so one for each guest and one to use in the room to activate power/lights etc. The room booked was a Standard Queen Room with window and we booked to include breakfast at Platform 270 the in house restaurant. I mention the room type includes a window because when booking on DoubleTree/Hiltons website it very usefully mentions if the Standard room has a window or not. The hotel is a typical inner city building tall, with a narrow frontage and is deeper than it is wide. So some rooms are window free because they are on the side of the hotel that joins the building adjacent to the hotel...hence no window. I appreciated the clarity on the website to be able to make an informed booking, if you want a room with a proper city view it's very easy to see those rooms on the website too. If like us you just have standard room with a window it's really just a view of the building next door and a view of the laneway below. If you want a 'special' view you can choose 'skyline river view' 'station view' or 'city view' obviously at a higher rate than the standard room. Room was very well presented, there was a mini bar to order in from but nothing actually in the room fridge apart from milk cartons for tea and coffee. We stayed on Friday/Saturday and the hotel was busy and presumably fairly full but I found the hotel really quiet we slept well both nights. No noise transmission from neighbouring rooms, no street noise, no echos down the corridor of room doors being slammed and our room wasn't too far from the 3 lifts and we didn't really notice any noise from the lifts either. Although just a standard room bathrobes and slippers were supplied and the robes were a lovely soft plush fabric rather than a hard coarse towelling...snuggly...cosy....much appreciated I get the impression that the room service team are on duty above and beyond standard hours. During one day we had our 'Do Not Disturb" sign up because we were literally coming and going throughout the day and just didn't want to be interupted when we were back in the room. Took the door sign down late late afternoon/early evening and went out for a quick meal and came back to find our room had been tidied and bed made, it was an unexpected but pleasant surprise. OVERALL VERY HAPPY TO STAY HERE AGAIN AND WOULD RECOMMEND

The DoubleTree is the charm of Flinders Street.

Convenient location, great view, and great staff. The room size at the DoubleTree was a bit different than our previous hotel during our stay in Australia. It was a lot larger with a king-size bed. Desk area and great view of the river and city. During our stay, we were lucky enough to have a view of the fireworks from the Moomba festival. Ordering dinner was easy, and the impressively delicious food was quickly delivered to our room. You can walk to nearby tourist and shopping locations and cafes within a minute or two. Breakfast can be arranged to be delivered to your room, or you can enjoy the al carte menu on the 1st floor. The location sets this property apart from other hotels in the area while the staff provides excellent service. The Hilton should be proud of this location.

Decent option

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

There is a lot of construction in the area and around the entrance. The photos of the hotel lobby must have been taken with a special lens. It's in a busy area with dozens and dozens of shops are food options within a few blocks - literally I'm every direction. Hotel staff were excellent. I was there twice. The first was a standard king which was quite small (small enough that there was a side table on only one side of the bed). But the room was well appointed. Indeed the mattress was excellent which is rare these days. The bathroom was small but adequate. It would be hard for two people to get ready at the same time. It had a decorative nightlight - which was a nice touch. Note that there was no upgrade offered (diamond). The next stay I was offered a balcony room - for a fee. I went ahead. It's a bigger room with great windows and a better layout. Be aware that a balcony means more noise enters the room and you face the train station. You also face the morning sun. Plus you are on the top floor so it's warmer in the room. The bathroom was a good bit bigger and much better laid out. The A/C in the regular room was excellent. Int he balcony room it tried but the heat from the roof and windows meant the room stayed warmer. The wifi was excellent and the hotel has robes that are quite nice. Overall, I'd stay here again. But book the room you want and don't expect an upgrade based on status.

Disappointing and sleepless stay.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We’ve stayed here previously and enjoyed the experience but this trip was disappointing. From the outset, this review is nothing to do with the staff who were obliging, courteous, helpful and willing to assist. Similar to an earlier review, the hotel location appears to be at the bottom end of town - case in point, we were enjoying a drink in the foyer (happy hour) when a homeless man entered, approached our table and attempted conversation. He left after non- engagement and speaking with hotel staff ( who checked on us also - apparently security didn’t start until 7)). The homeless situation in Melbourne looks bad, more so at this end of town around the train station. The room rate increases of a weekend but justification for the added noise and disturbance is questionable despite the fact we were on the eleventh floor - no double glazing didn’t help a largely sleepless night from the doof doof of a nearby venue, emergency vehicle sirens and old mate bellowing in the street for an hour or so. We’ll likely book elsewhere next time.
