Beacon South Beach

We picked this hotel for the location and it did not disappoint in this respect. I loved the decor and building itself - it was like a time capsule from the 50’s, however it was VERY rough around the edges. It smelt badly of weed, and was dirty. I did not feel clean after using the bathroom. They allow you to borrow bikes which was great and the beds were comfortable with clean linen. We were only staying 1 night therefore I was happy to take up the experience. If you are looking for a quirky hotel steeped in history and a great location this is the place for you. Keep looking though if you want shiny and modern (and clean)

Last time we stay here. Always expensive but now the cons outweigh the pros Pros- fantastic location, $380/nt 2 beds room price acceptable for location Cons- free breakfast gone, $75 early check in, $50 late check out, friendly attitude gone, rooms run down no investment.

The room was nothing like one in the ad. It was very dated and they tried to spruce it up with economy wood trim and tile. There were no tables like in the photos and I had to use an ironing board for. nite table. There were no lamps just a ceiling light. The clothes closet was a cubby hole and had no door although it did once. There was a piece of Home Depot pipe sticking out of the wall to hang clothes on. The shelves were not level.(See all in photos). There was mildew in the shower and there was no real place to place toilet items other than a 3 inch sloping glass shelf and the window seal. I asked for a missing bath towel twice for two days before I caught a maid in the hall. There was a huge noise disturbance with drunks in the hall across from us and I called the desk 3 times and got no results; no one cared, but they should have threw them out. I saw one fall drunk in the hall outside my door. Our worst experience in 60 years.

Location is great if you want to be in all the action. Sadly as the building is very old it comes with lots of challenges, it looks run down, the noise is really disruptive - pipework, doors banging. The hotel is relatively clean, but looks really rundown in places. There is also a non- negotiable local charge for beach towels, bike use, and seats for the beach even if you are not using any of them. Despite the great location we wouldn’t book to stay here again.

This is THE WORST hotel I have EVER stayed in. I just wrote a LONG letter to the hotel with my complaints. Not only are the pictures completely misleading, but the staff is rude. The pictures of the rooms look like cute art deco rooms - a FAR cry from the sub-dorm room like rooms they actually have. AND to top it all off, the sheets were stained all over them with some of the stains being BLOOD! When I brought this up to the staff they did nothing about it. If I could give this hotel a 0 rating I would.
