If your sweet tooth aches when you check into Meliá Milano, there might still be sugar in the building’s bones: This used to be the site of Alemagna cake factory, famous for inventing the traditional Christmas cake panettone. The factory was leveled in World War II, and an elegant hotel took its place in 2001. Rooms are outfitted in rich, neutral colors with heavy brocaded drapes and gilded gold embellishments. For a modern change of pace, book the Diabolik Comic Experience Room, a noire-style tribute to the Italian comic hero.

First impressions were good, the room felt clean and comfortable but there walls are so thin that we couldn't sleep on the first night. The guests in the next room were very loud. We called down to reception four separate times and they reassured they would ask the guests in the other room to quiet down which never happened. Another issue with this room is that the wifi didn't reach there. The next day we requested to move rooms and the receptionist was very accommodating and said he would find us the quietest room available. We were moved to another floor at the end of the corridor. again the room was clean and comfortable but yet again the guests in the adjoining room were very noisy playing music until 2am. We again contacted the front desk who again did nothing to help. The only positive to this room is that the wifi did reach there but it was very slow and cuts out every ten minutes. The lobby is modern and impressive but the rest of the hotel is very very old. The view out of the window is to a massive telecoms tower. There is a diesel generator on the roof that gets booted up for several minutes in the morning. Hotel renovations start at 7am as do the cleaners who have loud conversations and bang around in the corridors. This was a massive disappoint. The service is certainly not 5* and the rooms are clean yet dated. I would not recommend staying here.

The hotel is well located. There is a metro station nearby and a convenient road to the center. But the hotel itself is old and needs renovation. The furniture is worn, the mattress is very hard and uncomfortable, the sound insulation between the rooms is terrible. In fact, it is non-existent. There is construction opposite, which begins at 7 am. At 9 am, repair work begins inside the hotel. After that, it is very uncomfortable to be in the room. At the same time, the hotel has a good breakfast. There are many city parking spaces nearby. If you consider it a lower category hotel (say 4 stars) for the appropriate money, then overall the option is not bad. But do not count on 5-star comfort or service.

I stayed here for 5 days whilst attending a conference at the MiCo conference centre. The hotel is under 10 minutes walk from MiCo. The Lotto metro station is very close. This is a very good hotel. The room was large and had everything I wanted. Breakfast was excellent offering both quality and range.

It's been described as spectacular, and honestly, it’s one of the few times the word has been used correctly. It's an excellent hotel and beautifully designed. The service from the level concierge agents Ginevra and Yenifer (I hope I got their names right) was outstanding. They went above and beyond, leaving me with a calm and luxurious experience. And if you find Carlos behind the Level Loungebar (he's great) he whips up some amazing drinks. Thanks again
