Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort & Spa

We had a wonderful time at this resort! It was our 1st time at this resort, so we were a little lost, but these workers were so helpful and made it so fun! Special thanks to Dwayne for making our sailing adventures unforgettable. His service was top-notch. From the singing with us, to making us book a trip for next year!!! Highly recommend this resort!

We arrived to the hotel around Noon, and knew the check in time was 4:00, however, our room wasn’t ready until 1 hour after check in time. Once we were in the room, we wanted to get cleaned up and ready for dinner. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any hot water and that took 2 hours, with people in and out of the room several times, to fix. When we finally made it to dinner, at the Buffet, there wasn’t much food left. After the exhausting day, we were ready for sleep. We had to call several times to get bed linens & pillows for the pull out brought up (the first time, only a top sheet was brought and one pillow). On our 2nd day, there wasn’t any power for about 2 hours. This was impacting several buildings, not just ours. The food was average, at best, and sparse most days. The beach jerk chicken station ran out of chicken most days. I wouldn’t recommend the buffet, for any meal. The Asian restaurant was decent. When we went to the steakhouse, we ordered the steaks medium rare, but they came out basically raw. We asked to have them cooked more, and they came back out like hockey pucks. We were told that there was pool service every day, however, we never saw anyone serving at the pool. On the positive side, we felt safe at the hotel and on the beach and the hotel / property was clean. We met people that had been to the resort several times and they agreed something was off with this visit. I’m not sure if there’s new management or staffing issue, but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel anytime soon.

The Jewel Grande is definitely a jewel! I went with 3 friends and we had a 2 bedroom suite in the middle building (I think it was called Silver Palm) on the 3rd floor, with a butler. Our oceanfront balcony had a beautiful view of not only the ocean, but also the stage where nightly shows are. The suite was very spacious and clean. Employees were all very nice & fun. Our butler was Lennox and he was OUTSTANDING!! He took care of our EVERY want and need. He was always available (through WhatsApp), and he was so nice to us! Our driver Richard was great too! The food was good, and the shows were very entertaining. The pools are beautiful although we did wish there were more lounge chairs. Like a lot of resorts, they were taken early. Overall, this is an amazing place and we would go back there! Also, If you ever visit, make sure you go to the Luminous Lagoon – it is amazing!

This was our second time staying at the Jewel and we had another amazing holiday! We had a couple of hiccups with our room in the first 2 days but we were very happy at how management engaged us and did all they could to make things right. The Jewel has one of the best teams out of the all the hotels we have stayed at in Jamaica and we never worried that they wouldn't take excellent care of us. We stayed in a 1-bedroom oceanfront suite with a kitchen, dining room / living room area, 2 bathrooms and a washer & dryer. Our teenager had the living room area plus a bathroom to himself which was a fantastic set up for us. The hotel brought in a very comfortable rollaway bed for him although there is a pull-out sofa in the suite, if that's preferable. The suite is kept immaculate by a great team of housekeepers and on the few days that there was long wait to get the room made up, the staff were very responsive and helped us out with everything we needed. The rooms are very quiet and we never had any issues with noise from the hall or our neighbours. The restaurants are outstanding (our favourites are Pier Side and Waves) and the staff are very attentive and friendly. We are very happy the hotel no longer requires reservations in advance (except for Pier Side) and we had no issues finding a good place to eat at the time best suited for us. The outdoor feasts on Wednesday and Saturday are a highlight - especially the Street Party which features some of the best Jamaican food we have ever had at a hotel. The beach area is kept very clean and the loungers are in good condition. If you want shade, it is advisable that you get up early and secure your spot as the palapas are in high demand. We would recommend that the hotel create more shaded areas on the beach as the guests seem to seek that out the most. One of the things we love about the Jewel are the buildings and grounds. The architecture is stunning and the gardens are truly gorgeous. We loved walking around the property (morning and night) as it is so elegant and well kept. Another suggestion for the hotel is to rethink the butler service. Right now, butler service is only available to suites with 2 bedrooms or more. Anything below that does not have the option for butler service. Perhaps make butler service an optional extra for all guests like they do at other nearby hotels? It would certainly balance out the Jewel Grande experience for everyone, regardless of the type of room they have booked (not everyone needs a 2 bedroom suite or larger). Every staff member we encountered were amazing and very professional. Although this is an older resort, the service and staff were amazing. The suite was spacious and had a beautiful view of the beach. There was plenty of amazing entertainment and the food was delicious. Our two butlers Mr. G (Gashado and Garon) tended to our every need and made it an amazing girls trip. The Jewel Grande really is a jewel and I cannot wait to return.
