Great accommodation, disappointing outcome

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We were very happy and comfortable with the property, service, and breakfast. The disappointment came a few weeks afterward when I realized I had left my jewelry bag in the room. I called and was told that they keep items for 90 days, then that they must have donated it because they didn’t have it. Given the price of the accommodation I would have expected a courtesy call or email to let me know they had found a bag of jewelry left behind. It was my mistake to have left it but I remain very disappointed they did not reach out.

Charming B&B with great service

Love this place! This is our go-to lodging in the Monterey-Carmel area. Wendy and her crew are the friendliest innkeepers you could want. We have stayed three times since 2021, each time in the Cottage, a small separate building near the main house. It has a living room and sitting room separated by an arch. There's a gas fireplace in the sitting area and a huge jacuzzi tub. The toilet room, which is where the shower is, is *tiny*; that's the only drawback. The morning crew brought us breakfast at the cottage every day. Great breakfasts that managed to stay hot despite the distance from the kitchen. Otherwise there is a big dining table in the dining room in the house. Wine in the evening (we didn't attend). The house looks like an old English country estate. It's an historic property about a 15 minute walk from FIsherman's Wharf, which keeps it close to everything but away from the noise of downtown. The cottage was very quiet. We hope we will be able to enjoy many stays there!

Hidden gem

The Old Monterey Inn is a hidden treasure tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Our room was comfortable, and we loved the delicious breakfast served in the beautiful dining room. A lush garden surrounds the property adding ambiance to the Inn. The staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Cheese and wine are provided between 16:00 and 18:00 each day which added a wonderful touch to our stay. We will be back.

A Restful Stay at an Historic Inn

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

The Old Monterey Inn is a hidden treasure. An extremely quiet neighborhood during our stay surrounded by an enchanted garden, yet within walking distance to shops and restaurants nearby. Beautiful and comfortable room and delicious breakfasts served in our room, although the dining room was so beautiful and difficult to pass up for morning breakfast. The (OMI) Carmel Martin house is an interesting, historic house which was well appointed yet comfortable at the same time. I enjoyed reading about its history. The staff was attentive and kind as well. We will have to return on our next visit to the Monterey/Carmel area.

Ten Stars

The only way to describe this inn is magical. I am not one to wax eloquently but our stay was truly flawless. As we pulled into the narrow driveway, two deer appeared as if in a fairy tale. Wendy, our hostess, was beyond accommodating. They stick a fridge with yogurt and sodas 24/7. The happy 2 hours had lovely snacks and wine, while the breakfasts were indescribably delicious. The gardens are enchanting. Quiet and very comfortable room, everything we needed or wanted. My boyfriend isn’t a fan of small inns and I scoffed at the price, but we were both wrong. He’s still not willing to try any other B&Bs, as they will never live up to this one. I feel our visit was worth every penny.
