We stayed in this resort in the shoulder season and they were certainly not overbooked since I suspect they are a destination resort and it was a November Monday. We came here enroute from the west coast towards Christchurch and looked for a spot in the country rather than in the city. The resort is a year-round golf resort and perched in the shadow of the Mount Hutt ski area. We were absolutely staggered to be upgraded (unasked - thank you!) to a luxurious two bedroom suite with a wonderful view of the mountains and the championship level golf course. Full kitchen with four burner stove and oven, dishwasher etc. Large jacuzzi tub. Huge super king bed. We enjoyed our bottle of wine on the large balcony deck watching the sunset and the southern stars. Unfortunately we were not able to sample the onsite restaurant (the front desk had reached out to us to see if we wanted to make a reservation but we didn't get the message until we had made other plans) but the menu looked very good indeed as did breakfast. This was our last full day in NZ and in retrospect we would have gladly stayed longer. Next time perhaps! Delightful accommodation.

Lovely location. Large rooms, super spa bath. Very nice evening meal with pleasant staff. Downsides...very noisy toilet that flushed and gurgled in the night, enough to wake us several times. Reception was not too bothered when we reported it. One of us made a fix (shut the water input) for a better second night. Clearly not much cleaning prior to our arrival either. Dusty surfaces and even small shards of glass on the floor - a whoops by previous guests.

Warm and inviting dining area with an open fire, good selection for lunch and then on to the golf course, clay shooting and archery. I’d recommend this for couples wanting to get out of the city, groups to holiday with and business excursions.

Lovely staff, great accommodation, 2 restaurants both with stunning views over the golf course to the mountains. Dinner in the restaurant was a big treat with great tasty food. Would return to this resort if I'm ever fortunate enough to visit the area again and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Thank you.

The recent dumping of snow turned the Fable into a winter wonderland! The resort is set in the most stunning location, only an hour from Christchurch but a world away. Our Villa was toasty warm and comfortable, the setting and views are out of this world, the meals in the restaurant and cafe were delicious, we especially enjoyed the Chocolate Fondant, Pear and rhubarb crumble, venison and the full breakfast. A great selection of activities are on offer for those like us who don’t play golf nor ski. The standouts were, Target shooting with Neil with his personal one on one coaching, the Rakaia Gorge walk, we only walked 40 mins each way and saw some stunning views that looked like a painting and Lake Coleridge which is so quiet and serene that time just stops. Thank you to all the amazing staff, your friendly personal service really made our long weekend especially Joanna in the Cafe, Lady in the restaurant and the lovely ladies at reception who welcomed and farewelled us.
