We booked this hotel through Secret Escapes and were looking forward to going. Receptionist was kind enough to upgrade us upon arrival to a room as this was a late honeymoon celebration. There were several problems with this room firstly the room was exceptionally cold (reported the air con) also we had a lot of noise from the utility room/kitchen areas below our room, we could also hear our very noisy neighbours late at night of which these points were reported. The night reception did call The neighbours in question however but it was just as bad the next morning. The reception offered an alternative smaller room in between other rooms 2 days before we were due to leave which was pointless to move then. We noted there were other suites available with pools but were not offered these. Possibly due to them closing the hotel later in the month and wanting to keep the pools and rooms unused for that time (this was the only reason we could see and surmised this). Although my complaints are ongoing the Customer satisfaction aftercare is very disappointing too and communication is now being ignored by the hotel. Not what you would expect from a supposed 5 star hotel. The waiting staff were always very polite and accommodating though and very clean. It was exceptionally expensive for what it was however. Disappointing.

Having visited La Residence five years ago & had a fabulous holiday, we decided to make a second visit recently. Big mistake. Don’t get me wrong. This is definitely a five star resort with a lovely hotel & wonderful staff, but this time, in our opinion, the food let the hotel down big style. Absolutely no sign of any Greek food. There was a small choice buffet breakfast in the morning, massively downsized from our previous visit but they did have an eggs choice menu. Not everyone wants eggs everyday. The evening meal was a nouvelle cuisine style (popular in the 70’s) 5 course tasting menu with no choice (I asked) except the main course. Starting with Amuse Bouche which is a mouthful of guacamole or hummus or similar often served on a spoon with a rice crisp followed by second course of a cold soup. The almond soup came around twice on a 7 night holiday. For instance the sea bass choice was the size of a fish finger. The night I chose chicken, it was five one inch size cubes of chicken, with three smaller pieces of potato & two even smaller pieces of corn and 3 squirts of some milky foam. Note : The Chef is a big fan of goats cheese, yogurt, Creme fraiche, beetroot & squid ink. You could probably have fed the whole hotel from one chicken. Followed by a fish course then a choice of mains & lastly a dessert. For someone who doesn’t eat dessert Except ice cream, I was told I cannot have an ice cream in the evening, even though it was on the poolside & room service menu during the day for 9 euros. I heard other guests asking to change choices & the reply was always no. We saw no salad of any description except baby cherry tomatoes were used when Greece has wonderful big tomatoes absolutely full of flavour, and there were practically no vegetables. We did choose to eat out a couple of times to enjoy Greek cuisine & went on the local bus into Mykonos. I know the GB Pound to the Euro exchange rate is not the best, but €30 for the cheapest house wine is extortionate. A gin & tonic was €15, a small beer was €7, a coke was €5 or €6, a bottle of still water was €5 and sparkling water was €7. After dinner everyone disappeared obviously not wanting to pay those prices, so there was no atmosphere in the bar area. The weather was great which we enjoyed but we shall definitely not be returning to La Residence.

My wife and I have just returned from La Residence. We selected this '5 Star' boutique hotel from Secret Escapes in order to celebrate our Pearl Wedding Anniversary. What a disappointment it has been. La Residence is located in a very small community about 15 minutes drive from Mykonos town. In October only one taverna is open in addition to the hotel restaurant so you will need a car unless you rely on the infrequent bus service. On arrival we were upgraded to a shared pool room (pool between 4 rooms) - I hesitate to call it a suite - which is quite well furnished and clean, although I found a part used packet of cigarattes on the wardrobe. Further, there is very little privacy in the room with other guests walking down past the pool area and a constant stream of staff. One of the downsides is that there is no 5 star amenities in the room e.g. no coffee/tea making, a small empty fridge, and no music system etc. The coffee/tea making arrangements are bizarre - you can phone the bar to deliver coffee and tea at no charge but if you actually go to the bar then each coffee is charged at Euro 5. Our room telephone was not working properly so we had to phone via reception to be put through to the bar, although reception was not always attended. We had the worst bed we have ever experienced. Both of us struggled to sleep and awoke each morning in excruciating back pain. We ended up using the pool beds outside our room! The bed needs a new mattress asap. The area outside of our room was wet with dripping 'water' from adjacent rooms. There was no doormat so we constantly walked in with wet feet. The bar prices were crazy. We like to sit at the bar after dinner but were not prepared to pay those prices. It seemed everyone was in agreement as it was empty every night. We had a free dinner for the last night but after reviews and comments from guests we forego the offer. We did have lunch on the departing day which was excellent. Breakfast was OK but limited - continental followed by an egg menu. The room itself was quite well furnished but it was not a suite. Apart from two dining chairs there was nowhere else to sit - not even the terrace which had two pool beds. Air conditioning was good and in room WiFi worked reasonably well. The staff, in particular Kikki, were wonderful and we would have enjoyed their service even more if the hotel had welcomed guests with reasonably priced drinks and meals. The reception and lounge areas are beautifully furnished with a lovely outside pool and views of the sea. The local beach is at least 100-150 m away and the hotel is not beach front as advertised. Be aware the sun beds on the beach are Euro 20 pp and at the nearby beach bar Euro 70 per pair for front line! Unless you like total seclusion and are happy paying ridiculous prices, then I cannot recommend this hotel. For the price we paid we have stayed in far superior hotels.

We had a short 10 break in this hotel. A luxurious hotel with outstanding accommodation. On arrival we had to go to an alternative hotel for one night but were then upgraded to a suite. The location and ambiance was fantastic and the food (though small on portions) was wonderful). A restful luxurious location ideal for a short holiday.

We have just come back from an amazing, relaxing week at the hotel. The staff were so welcoming and attentive and accommodated all of the requests we had. From the Reception girls, to the breakfast team, to the dinner team - even the Maintenance Manager and House Keeping Teams. The whole team was fantastic and did a brilliant job/work very hard! The hotel is very close to the beach and has a superb bus service running regularly and efficiently to take into Mykonos Town - much cheaper than a taxi!! We are definitely missing our time at the hotel and have holiday blues!
