About the Hotel

Built on stilts over the water, Hôtel Palafitte is a magnificent and iconic retreat in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. With such a unique construction, originally erected as part of the National Expo 2002, this intrepid oasis – part of the Lifestyle collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts – is truly remarkable when it comes to a place to stay. Expert architecture enhances the spectacular views, which gaze over Lake Neuchâtel, the largest lake contained within Switzerland's borders. Accommodations include shore and lake pavilions, providing an enchanting space for every guest to experience and enjoy. Each pavilion sits aloft its own stilts, affording you with over 730 square feet of indoor space and an additional 100+ square feet of private terrace, again offering views of the tranquil water or the neighboring Alps. Depending on your bungalow, you can access the lake to swim either via your own private ladder into the water or by taking a short path to the shore. And as if the outside was not already enough, interior spaces feature floor-to-ceiling windows, remarkable custom furnishings, personal espresso makers, WiFi access, plasma televisions and luxury bath amenities.

Reviews for Hotel Palafitte

Nice but plan well….

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I’d recommend the Palafitte. Except: when you do your booking, make sure you book directly with the hotel and not get redirected involuntarily to some shady booking site. The hotel will not honour changes and the site (when I called the USA) was extremely inflexible and wanted me to cancel and rebook last minute. And when booking make sure you pay attention to the can cancellation policy. Take a screenshot. I’ve ended up with one extra room und wasn’t allowed to cancel. All in all a great experience except the booking and cancellation (or the lack thereof) procedures.

Grosse déception

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

What is priceless about this hotel is its location, otherwise I can only think of the German expression which so fittingly describes it as “In die Jahre gekommen”. Reception was good, otherwise service and food were rather disappointing and once even downright terrible. Pity.

Great property, but shows age, value for money a problem

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Service was very friendly but not efficient. We had to call for service multiple times, house keeping was slow and restaurant staff, while again very friendly, not very observant. Overall, we love the location and idea of the Palafitte, but the property shows its age clearly and is no longer worth the very high price.

The room is dirty, full of huge spiders and the rubbish they make (insect carcasses everywhere...).

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

We checked out after the first night. It is inconceivable to me how a Five Star hotel can afford to have so much dirt and insects IN THE ROOM. The room is dirty and not renovated. If you decide to go to a camping, say in the woods or on a lakeside, you expect that of course, but maybe you're prepared for it there. But in the case of a five-star hotel, it never crossed our minds that we were buying a ticket to a nightmare. If you go near water, yes, it is natural to have spiders, mosquitoes and all kinds of insects. But it is horrible how many spiders there are in the room, and not the smallest size... It's also a fact that you can only go out on the terrace after sunset if you're perfectly ok with countless insects flying around, with good sized spiders, and billions of mosquitoes and flying insects. But in your room - which is otherwise protected from intruders by mosquito nets - there are nonetheless a lot of giant spiders. If you haven't counted 20, you haven't counted one. Unfortunately, they are in the corners, but also on the pillow in bed.... The room is littered with insect remains already eaten by spiders. If someone is really not OK with sleeping with spiders, I would not recommend it. However, if that is not a problem for you, this is the best accommodation on the lake. Unfortunately, we are not the only ones complaining about this. I have read several reviews (afterwards, unfortunately) complaining about spiders in the room.

Bad service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Food was good, but the service was not courteous at all. Wine list was not given. After ordering the food, the wine was not requested and the food was already served. Food was good, but the service was not courteous at all. Wine list was not given. After ordering the food, the wine was not requested and the food was already served. We had to wait over 30 minutes for the main course and when we made a note to the service staff there was not a single apology for the delay (neither from the chef de rang nor from the chef de service) completely ignorant and expensive if you pay attention to the service. The food was good but on the whole, the service was very disappointing.
