Reviews for IBEROSTAR 70 Park Avenue Hotel

Fantastic location - but the Management

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I am an IHG Diamond Member. When I was looking for a stay for my arrival at NYE, this hotel attracted my attention as they requested fewer reward points for NYC. A "neutral" name is typically a sign of a transition from one brand to another: here, from Iberostar to Kimpton. We had pretty good experiences in other hotels in transition since we were primarily accommodated in renovated rooms. We were looking for the final result and remained loyal after the transition. When we booked, we wrote that we needed a twin configuration. The GM confirmed that they would put a note in our booking, but when we arrived, they had no twin rooms, and as far as we understood, there was no twin room in this hotel anyway. Subsequent disappointment: the hotel does not mention on their homepage that they do not offer a room service but forgot to mention that there is no restaurant. I cannot get complimentary breakfast as a Diamond Member. The best reason to be an IHG member. You get only 500 points, which is worth nothing compared to daily breakfast in an expensive city like NYC. They charge you a resort fee for "nothing." As an IHG member, I should get free internet anyway. Who needs free local calls when most guests have cell phones and a flat rate plan? For the access to the gym 24/7 only? You get a one-time discount coupon for a Danish bakery to replace the breakfast. The other coupons are for a Belgian Chocolate maker or a department store within 30-45 minutes of walking distance — and two bottles of water for the entire stay as a welcome drink. Coffee capsules were not filled up during a three-night stay. We asked for a second blanket since they cannot offer a twin room. They provided linen and a blanket, and we had to do it ourselves. The next day, the housekeeping separated the blankets and linen, and we could do the work again. The front desk was friendly. The rooms were clean (but you could see the traces of the extended operation as a hotel, and they all needed to be freshened up). The lack of restaurants could be easily compensated with discount coupons for every night in locations within a 5-minute walk distance from the hotel: between the hotel and Grand Central Terminal. There were so many great places to have breakfast. The area is one of the best you can get in NYC for a tourist visit. So many places were walkable. We need only a one-time subway to get to Chinatown. Indeed, I got the questionnaire during our stay, and I wrote down my issues. The reaction of the General Manager was well prepared and blab la (general phrases): arrogant, callous, and disinterested in content. Have your camping equipment and personal microwave when you stay, and you will have one of the best places to stay in NYC geographically. If you expect a modern-stylish hotel, yes, the lobby is modern-stylish. The hotel does not cooperate with a garage around the corner, which allows hotel residents to park at half price against the presentation of a booking confirmation. I usually get points when I book for a friend under my IHG account. But they did not give them. He told me that the hotel charged him to use the mini-bar after check-out, although the fridge was empty.

great one night stay to see Annie the musical

It was a great experience, in terms of a NYC hotel. the room was fairly decent size with two queen beds and the bathroom was a decent size and the bathroom looked renovated and the floor was quiet ,that we stayed on. The streets outside of the hotel were quiet in terms of cars etc until about 830/9a which is very unusual for NYC..a pleasant surprise. Front of the hotel was an easy stop/access point to hop in an uber/ride share. Great location near Bryant park, American Girl doll store and Rockefeller tree/center! Close drive to the Amtrak station (less than 20min).  We made a request to get new sheets instead of sending them up they changed our room to ensure it was better...no questions asked. They were kind and ready to meet our needs. The staff was amazing, especially Evelyn...she went above and beyond to make my goddaughter's Christmas gift trip /my birthday trip special. The extra (unrequested favors) i.e. a late checkout and a bottle of wine to celebrate were the special touches that made the trip special. Her attention to detail and restaurant recommendations, in addition to her calm yet confident demeanor made it easy to ask questions and find out what I needed.--

New year in NY

Friendly staff, small (clean) rooms but small rooms does seem to be the norm in NY, with small bath and shower. Our room could benefit from a refresh as few signs of wear and tear mainly in the bathroom . Tiles coming off the wall enamel paint coming off the bath. But nothing bad enough to make you complain. Big bonus, and main reason we booked here, location. You can walk to a large number of the main sightseeing spots in about 20 mins. If returning would definitely consider this hotel again.

Very Nice Hotel and Convenient Location for the Price

We usually stay at the Fitzpatrick or Hotel 57 on Lexington, but the cost for 3 rooms over 2 days during the holidays was cost-prohibitive this year. I am so glad we found 70 Park Avenue. The rooms were larger and had everything we needed - refrigerator, hair dryer, nice views, okay water pressure, plenty of towels, etc. The rooms were clean, and even though the bathroom was a little cramped, it did the job. The entire staff, from the front desk to the doorman to housekeeping were incredibly friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is very pretty and close to a lot of the foreign embassies. (It's also very close to Grand Central and the AKC Dog Museum!) There were plenty of places to eat and it only took us about 15 minutes to walk up to Rockefeller Center. It was also only about a 20 minute walk to Broadway. If I could give them a 10, I would. We will definitely be back.

Great stay in a great location.

Just spent 4 nights and we were very happy with our stay. Had read a few concerning reviews but we had no issues whatsoever. Staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was clean. Shower was hot with good pressure, the room door had no issues locking. The location was perfect too, close to everything in midtown without being right in the middle of it.
