AKA Tribeca re-imagines what it’s like to live the New York dream. You know the one: A spacious mid-century townhouse tucked into an impossibly cool downtown street, with a living room that draws a horde of creative friends. The public spaces at the AKA Tribeca are intimate and inviting, redesigned in 2014 by SoHo firm Gachot Studios. Fireplaces, white oak floors and a library stocked with art books invite lingering, while the bar and restaurant are both destinations of their own. James Beard Award-winning chef Andrew Carmellini’s restaurant is hyper-local, with a seasonal menu forged from longstanding relationships with farmers and producers. Cocktails at Evening Bar are equally artisanal, concocted by the mixologist behind the city’s great speakeasies.

The Smyth is an amazing property, all of the staff are very professional, stylish, and give amazing customer service. The overall brand, location, and food and beverage outlets are very luxe and boutique. My friends and I had the best time at the bar and loved the rooms.

TV did not work well. Impossible to find channels. Towels rough and flimsy. Would also expect complimentary water and/or at least a water station. "Resort" fee?? Please just increase the nightly rate rather than charge a $180 nightly resort fee - wifi and a basement gym are not a resort. That's annoying. Thank you.

We stayed 3 nights at the Smyth in a queen room with a terrace on the 9th floor. We overall were very pleased with our stay. Check in was easy and the lobby smells fantastic. The room was compact (but that's NYC hotel rooms!) but comfortable, and we loved the terrace off our room with views of One World Trade Center and the Empire State building. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The subway stop is right outside the door, so you can't beat that! Neighborhood is really clean and lovely, lots of good stuff to walk to from the hotel. Our only quibbles were: (1) We had to run the shower for 10m before the hot water would be hot. This means showering required some forethought, and also wasted a lot of water. (2) There are no hooks or towel racks in the room or bathroom other than a very small towel rack on the shower door, which means there was no where to hang a robe or a wet towel after showering to dry. A pegboard or a few hooks would have made a big difference! (3) The "big light" in the bathroom came on automatically with a motion sensor, which made keeping lighting low at night difficult. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and would stay again.

Hotel left us stuck in an elevator for over 40 minutes with no staff competent to address the crisis, yet stalled on our demand they call fire department despite severe medical risk to an 81 year old guest with cardiac issues; when fire department finally got us out management seemed indifferent and offered only token compensation. Turned a casual New York holiday into a nightmare.

My family and I arrived at the hotel on the 23rd at 9 a.m. after a grueling 13-hour trip, only to be delayed in the lobby for another hour due to a company credit card issue. With my two-year-old exhausted and crying, I ended up covering the cost myself to finally access our room by 10 a.m. During this time, the staff offered little support, leaving us standing at the entrance without assistance. At the Residence Inn, several colleagues faced the same card issues but were never blocked from accessing their rooms, as the hotel understood our company would ultimately pay. Unfortunately, Smith Tribeca didn’t extend the same courtesy, showing a lack of consideration and leaving my family stranded. This will be our last stay with Smith Tribeca.
