The Surrey

The first and last person to touch you is the doorman when we got there Johnny made everything simple with a great smile when it was time for dinner he arranged the house car. The next morning when we left a new doorman, Julio was extraordinarily helpful The entire experience couldn’t have been better.

Beautifully renovated recently and no expense was spared! Noah Durliat front desk manager welcomed us and was delightful. When he found out it was my birthday weekend he made several special arrangements for us including a room upgrade and a birthday cake on my birthday. The mini bar was like no other I have ever seen! It has everything you could possibly imagine, including a lime wedge for your cocktails. The complimentary car service was also an unexpected treat. The BMW 7 series with massaging seats was luxurious and Kevin was an excellent driver!! We will definitely be back and will highly recommend The Surrey to all our friends traveling to NYC.

…the new Surrey looks superb. A slightly Japanese feel to the room finishes, pale woods, textured fabric-like wall covering and calming shades of curtains and carpets give the place a slightly retro but modernist look. The double – or probably triple – glazing cuts out sound and the walls and doors have clearly been designed to do the same. Exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff clearly want you to feel both at home and helped, should you need it, but are also happy to let you be as well. My only concern is that I didn’t bring a 7-year old with me to work out how the lights worked. All or nothing, never some and not others, none of the ‘switches’ said anything but used pictograms which were by no means obvious. Also, though I turned on the television easily enough, I couldn’t see how to change the sound source from being only in the bathroom, and at 11 at night in my jimjams I really don’t want somebody coming to the room to sort it out. There was also a picture on the wall, of what looked like a cow girl, but as an AI monster in denim and lippy....quite ghastly but not enough to disturb my sleep.

The Surrey hotel just re- opened in October 2024 after an extensive renovation. Everything about it is fantastic. It is in a great upper east side location, the staff is extraordinary and they all strive to exceed any expectation you may have. Noah at the front desk was especially attentive and went above and beyond! The room was comfortable and lovely. Beautiful linens and those extra thick windows that keep out the city noises. I am a Bemelmans fan because I love the decor, feel and vibe. The Surrey lounge is, of course, more modern but equally as intimate, clubby, great decor and equally great vibe! Book a stay - you wont be disappointed. I am definitely a fan and going back!

The redesigned and refurbished Surrey Hotel is now my favorite NYC hotel. It’s elegant and comfortable, and the rooms were obviously designed with attention to every detail. There is a lively bar and restaurant scene. The lounge and restaurant are lovely. And once you get up to your room, the atmosphere is very quiet and serene. The beds are of the highest quality, as are all the fittings in the bathrooms and the rooms more generally. The staff is wonderful: welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The Surrey is a warm quiet oasis in the middle of a loud busy city. The best.
