In a region best known for its wireless hotspots, the Aloft Silicon Valley stands out as the ultimate holiday hotspot. Located in Newark near Palo Alto, this Northern California property redefines the suburban escape, with its Dean Martin-worthy accommodations, soothing in-room spa treatments, and outdoor heated pool, complete with sand. An upscale burger bar, Relish, puts a new twist on an American classic. And signature Whatever/Whenever Service sweetens the deal, providing exactly what it implies.

Filthy and rude staff. First room they put me in had blood stains on the draperies and lampshades. Doors on the dressers are jammed and won’t close. When I asked to move, they said no rooms were available, and I pressed on. The dude said “did you do anything in there?” Huh? I don’t want to TOUCH anything. Magically he found another room. The place is empty. New room has blood stains on sheets, and the bathroom smells like low tide. You have to wear shoes on the filthy carpet. 4 stars? What a joke. If this wasn’t paid for already by my work I’d demand my $ back and leave. Motel 6 is cleaner

There was literally feces on the toilet. The room was disgusting. Cup marks on the tables and desk. No surface had been adequately wiped down. The sofa in my room was gross. When I asked the ladies at the front desk to be moved to a new room, they said none were available. This was interesting, as many people continued to check into (available) rooms after me (including some of my colleagues). The ladies did send a cleaner to the room, who cleaned the toilet for me. After I inspected her work, I still had to ask her to hit spots she missed - twice. The women who worked at the desk were nice, but not overly proactive, as they scrolled their phones and read during downtime. Towels were always dingy. This was just a disgusting place - one of the dirtiest hotels I’ve stayed in. The best part about this place is the bar and the ability to connect with people in the bar/lobby area. But I will not stay here again. I do not recommend.

My room was spacious and comfortable. However, housekeeping was sporadic and unreliable. Food was good when available, but it never started at the advertised time. At best it was 5 minutes late. At worst, the chef didn't show up that morning and I went to McDonalds. You need a car to stay here, but parking costs extra. There are no services in the immediate vicinity. There are shopping centers a few miles away.

The rooms are dated and don’t feel very clean. There is carpet in the rooms and it has stains all over. The bathrooms have awful lighting, the caulking and paint are messy, and the grout is filthy. The blinds in the room are ripped all over. There are poles from the old curtains still up that nobody has removed. The view from the 2nd floor internal rooms are off the roof. The windows have streaks all over them. The bathtub had long hair strands all over it when I checked in, so thinking someone cleaned the rest of the room but no the bathtub. The topping on the cake was I had takeout food that I put in the fridge for a few days and was planning to take home, only to discover when I went to leave that the fridge doesn’t even work so now all my food is spoiled. The bar and staff were the only good things. I would not stay here again due to the room conditions.

I booked a suite here for a few day stay. Hotel was responsive through the Marriott app since my flight was cancelled, they said it was no problem to check in a day later, which was nice. The front desk was pretty quick on check in, which was great since I was tired from a transpac flight. No mention of titanium status but at least I was asked what I would like for my benefit. I chose the points. A negative since my last stay a few years ago, they now charge for parking and told me to display a parking permit on my dash overnight. The location is in a safe area, very easy to get to from SFO. Easy access to freeways, some restaurants, gas stations, and convenience stores not too far away. The room definitely has seen better days. The black out shades were functional, but the privacy curtains were not present. The rail for them was still there on both windows, but the curtains were just not there. The bed was comfortable and the living area was fine in the suite. There was also a small kitchenette which was nice. Housekeeping needed to be requested at check in. The staff was nice during my stay. This could be a really great hotel if it was just better maintained. Either way, it's better than staying in Oakland. For the price, I can't complain too much - the value is definitely there but things have definitely slipped. Hopefully they improve in the future, a little refresh would make it one of the better valued hotels in the area when it comes to Marriott properties.
