This was one fine experience, made more so by our server, Angela. She got our attention right away when she rolled out the tray with the 6 different teas from which we could chose and took the time to talk about Steven Smith, the tea maker, and then each tea. After making our selection she brewed each of our teas while explaining the process and when and how to pour. Afterwards she didn’t just forget us. She was perfectly attentive throughout our time there. As for the food offerings, my wife and I have enjoyed afternoon tea across the USA and in several European locales. This was our first visit to the Viking and the offerings were very good, sandwiches in particular showed that the kitchen had gone to special lengths in their preparation. The scones were more like muffin tops, which I enjoyed but she not so much. The total experience made this event one excellent buy. As an aside, we were both disappointed that the lobby and dining areas had been modernized. We had been looking forward to seeing the insides of a 100 year old relic of the latter Newport gilded age.

Many of the staff members were outstanding especially Peter and Angela. Peter is a concierge/guest ambassador and was incredibly helpful, with great suggestions for solving our issues/needs. Angela was delightful and caring. She returned our plates to the kitchen when we needed to step away during dinner. Great team of valet attendants as well.

Awful, Awful, and Awful. Our room was not ready not ready at 4pm check in, disrupting our late afternoon plans. Upon check in around 9pm we found a room with no air circulation in place creating a "Stale" odor enviornment. Clean comfortable bed and all should be fine, right? Not even close. Can you imagine a hotel of this caliber would have no hot water in the morning for a shower?? Also, to add to our disgust the sink was backing up when we attempted to simply brush our teeth and bathroom floor had a sticky feel to it. Upon check out the desk service stated they would notify the maintenance staff of our complaints, after clearly noting that we were NOT satisfied they made a minor adjustment to the bill, I'm still steaming enough to share our experience and recommend you explore other options in Newport-

It’s a nice quaint hotel. Amenities are still very outdated . People are friendly and nice. Came as part of a wedding event so the place can host special events. Restaurant food was mediocre. We had booked for a larger room, however we realised that we had actually got a standard room. It was a poke room with small window. We only got to see nice rooms when we went to meet a few relatives. Felt a bit taken for granted here.

My daughter and I had afternoon tea here. We have done this a few times before. It is always a pleasant experience. Angela, our server made it especially enjoyable and relaxing. She knew about all the teas and explained each one in depth. She attended to our every need. The sandwich and dessert offerings were delicious. Good quality and there was an abundance of choices.

We got married at Kay Chapel and had our reception at the Hotel Viking in December. The entire event was everything that I hoped it would be! The Hotel Viking is traditional, outstanding and eloquent. Our reception was in the Bellevue Ballroom and everything was beautiful. The staff was exceptional! They were there for us throughout the evening and paid such close attention to all of the guests! The hotel service was also outstanding. I am delighted to give the Hotel Viking the highest of reviews.
