We drove the short distance from Many Glacier to arrive in the middle of the day. We were delighted to be able to check into our second floor lake view room. There is an elevator, the oldest in Canada, for guest use, but you must have a staff member with you. It seems a little silly to have a parking charge with a large parking lot. Just roll the cost into the room fee. The room was clean and cute but far from large. This is an historic hotel. If you want larger rooms or cheaper prices don't stay here. However, the view, the atmosphere and the staff more than make up for the lack of modern amenities. As darkness started to descends a family of mule deer came out. Then the fog began rolling in and one felt transported to a fairy tale. That evening a staff member spoke on the history of the hotel. It is the complete package for a day back in time.

The Prince of Wales is as spectacular and special as we had heard! Eye-popping location (reminded me of Hogwarts, standing out isolated on the side of the mountain) on Waterton Lake was just magical. Like most of the old national park lodges, the rooms in the PoW are not huge and the bathrooms are smallish but anyone who books at the lodges knows they will trade off luxury for history and atmosphere! We had a room that opened onto the incredible lake view. We enjoyed hanging out in the lobby with its floor-to-ceiling windows onto that view, and enjoyed dinner in the smaller of the two restaurants. The staff were all super friendly and helpful university students. So much to see in the area! We loved the nearby Bison Paddock, Cameron Lake (where we had a lesson on bears! and a picnic lunch), Red Rock Canyon Parkway and the Canyon Loop hike. The only disappointing aspect (a small complaint indeed): We skipped the (pricey) buffet breakfast in the restaurant and went for coffee and a muffin each day of our stay, purchased from the tiny coffee shop. Two things were annoying. First the selection was pretty limited. Second, the young woman working the cash register asked every customer to leave a tip. Super tacky.

This was a wonderful experience. The history and craftsmanship of this hotel is amazing and location can't be beat. The service and food was fantastic. There are no TVs, air conditioning or heating but we didn't miss any of it and there is WiFi to share the fantastic pictures you will be taking of the unbelievable views. The bed was very comfortable, we stayed for 2 nights. I highly recommend this property.

Glorious trip to Waterton Lakes National Park. The stay at Prince of Wales was the zenith of hospitality - from the front desk, to bellman, to wait/bar staff and housekeeping. Truly an elegant experience in a mesmerizingly beautiful backdrop of the Canadian Rockies.

Stunning location overlooking the village and the lake. The moon was very bright the night we stayed and we had a lakeside room and enjoyed seeing it light up the lake! Lots of history and well maintained. We enjoyed our breakfast in the Royal Stewart dining room and the sunset in the Windsor Lounge was awesome! The town of Waterton is only a few minutes away along with more view and many hikes!
