Mountain Top Luxury

Magnificent property. Well worth the drive up the hill. The room was the best hotel room I've ever stayed at. Breakfast is fabulous. The view and pool are sublime. We did the 5-mile hike right outside the front gate and it was well worth the effort. The resort is expensive but, hey, you can't take it with you.

Splendid Isolation

high on the „jabal“ Akhdar, almost at the end of the plateau, there is the Alila. at a nice distance from the hustle and bustle of the little town where many pop of the other hotels are. situated at the convergence of two canyons there are spectacular views , especially from the garden and from your room. this place has been here for a while, nevertheless it is presenting itself in very good shape, almost like new. the outside is in a very minimalist style, all in local stones, the interior design in subdued colors will strike you as very, very tasteful. the well appointed rooms are a treat, as is the restaurant with its choice of local, Asian and international cuisine. among the well trained staff Kath really stood out for her guest orientation, efficiency and friendliness. if you plan to spend a long weekend or a week here in winter to enjoy the resort facilities you might want to ask yourself if you are of the tougher sort. because of the altitude and wind there is a certain freshness to the place. we did our swimming later down south in Salalah. having said this, when we were there in February, there was always a happy crowd enjoying themselves in and around the pool.

Fabulous hotel in stunning location.

An amazing location and a beautiful hotel. The staff were very efficient and helpful. Great amenities including a lovely nature trail. Food and beverages great. The only slight negative was that we booked the largest so called terrace suite but there was no separate inside sitting area ...just an armchair and desk chair in the bedroom. The very large terrace was in full shade by noon and, as it was quite chilly at that altitude , was unusable. Do ask for a suite with afternoon sun.

One of the best

One of the best hotels we have stayed in. Very relaxing and all the facilities that were needed for a couple. Restaurant served delightful Arab, Asian & European dishes of highest quality. Drinks obviously expensive. Lovely service throughout. An absolutely amazing location, stunning views, obviouslyremote. Excellent service. Not inexpensive overall though. We would return

A 4star+ hotel in a unique mountain setting

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Why average? with the 425R price tag (£900) a night it has to be excellent. Tips: 1 if you are stopping 1 night, get here by 1400 and maybe leave at 1100 to get the benefit. 2 if you do the so called butterfly walk start an hour before sunset, wear minimum strapped sandals and consider taking some light. Lots of loose stones 3 book half board 4 when booking a table …book inside, you will have more space and its all dark out anyway so nothing to see 5 the restaurant will bring you room quality water if you are clear but they blatantly try the upsell and thats just embarrassing at these prices. The food is Michelin guide standard, not star but its well up there and a culinary delight 6 leave plenty of time for breakfast as it is waiter service and slower. It is again very good The decked area is not huge and lots of people just leave their towels to occupy a sun bed so its really not well managed, so unnecessary. The area at the back of the hotel is nice to sit out at at night, unfortunately a crying baby emptied the area, (poor little mite wanted sleep ) The rooms are large, ours was poorly aspected North facing but it was fine. There is plenty of drinking water. There were 4 cans of soft drinks but they did not replenish them, in fact we had to ask for our room to be serviced at well after lunch time. No special touches either, an apple and a pear on day 1, nothing thereafter, no mints or anything, sloppy really Its 11 years old now and has enjoyed a duopoly with another hotel up here tho a third is on its way. Accountants like to squeeze every penny out of a property and its true here. I thought it was a nice experience and would rate it 4 star+ , at the price if you can get here early and leave later that gets the best value. Once you have had the experience no real need to repeat it Staff were all fine and all greet guests as you would expect The clientele keep to themselves as is often the case with the more expensive venues
