Reviews for Melia Bali - The Garden Villas

The best! Meliá & Ketut are the best!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Stayed with my husband, two teenaged daughters and friends and had a blast! Wanted to come back a year later but it’s closed for renovations 😞 Where is Ketut working now (see photos to know which Ketut is the GOAT)? This guy in the photos made our 5-night stay at the Meliá the absolute best. Nothing was too much trouble for him. We were all on the all-inclusive deal, which was worth every cent! We started each day with an incredible buffet breakfast, followed by water aerobics in the pool. Then we’d have a late satay lunch on the deck overlooking the volcano (maybe even have a bike ride). Dinner at the Japanese Restaurant onsite was incredible - it was the best food I’ve ever eaten. On the last night of our stay one of my daughter had an accident which landed her in hospital, and extended our stay by another five days. Although that was very traumatic and unexpected, the Meliá were fabulous throughout it all. ***We actually stayed in December 2023 but it took me a year to write this review.

Gratefulness

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

I want to immensely thank Paude, a worker in Melia hotel that helped us a lot! When staying Melia during july i had a bad experience with breakfast because one day my stomach was hurting really bad and sink in our bathroom became dirty because of it. But Paude cleaned it despite the fact that we asked him that we can do it by ourselves, but he took this responsibility for himself and we can't express how grateful we are for his help. His service was on a higher level possible and we still remember how he helped us. Thanks a lot!

Love this resort , can’t wait for the renovations to finish so we can get back to paradise . Staff are amazing, food is delicious, location is beautiful and the gardens are stunning. This resort really is worth trying if you love Bali. I can’t wait to return .

5* staff and location - 2* rooms and renovation work ongoing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Booked an all inclusive 10 nights in April 2024 for a late September early October stay (6 months in advance)…. On check-in we were told that the hotel would be under going a renovation, which is needed given the status of the rooms (1980s I believe). This renovation started on the day we left which meant during our stay restaurants were closed, sections cordoned off and food / drinks were into their last supplies. When booking an all inclusive stay, 24 hours of travel time (London) with a 9 month old - these things matter. We’ve been told that they were unable to communicate these details earlier, but renovation contracts don’t happen overnight so this is very hard to believe, had we known earlier then we would have asked for a refund and changed hotel. Unfortunately we were not given the option for doing so. For full disclosure this was communicated as follow (pricing comment left out as comparable hotel options were significant cheaper and hence we were charged at least 20% over what we could have got elsewhere) As sent: We had an amazing time due to the staff being so helpful and friendly and the hotel being in such a perfect place. In particular, the beach restaurant staff took great care of us on a daily basis: That being said we were extremely disappointed to find out on arrival that: - Renovations - the hotel was being closed down for renovations. Whilst we were here, the hotel was being cleared out, rooms emptied, sections made unavailable to walk through, which made us feel we were in the way and being rushed out during our holiday. We weren’t made aware of this prior to our arrival or on booking. - Restaurant availability, the Japanese and Lotus restaurant were closed before we had time to enjoy our package as part of the all inclusive benefits. We did manage to sit in the Lotus restaurant once but it was then closed the next day. This only left us with the buffet, Satoria and Sorrento. Given we were eating by the pool everyday we really felt confined to just the one menu for both lunch and dinner. - cross contamination - my wife is coeliac and has an allergy to gluten. The kitchen staff and waiting staff were excellent but there was one instance where she had a Caesar salad and became ill (vomiting) and missed the day and night. We appreciate that something like this is really hard to avoid but we also wanted to make you aware for future that even the slightest breadcrumb can have this effect on someone with coeliac disease. - food and drink availability - although we were pleasantly surprised to see more drinks included on the all inclusive list (albeit towards the end of our holiday), we were often told that items had run out or wouldn’t be restocked given the hotel was closing (some of the fish wasn’t available, prawns run out). - Room quality - we were expecting 5* quality rooms. The rooms were dated and tired. in particular the bathroom was not up to scratch and although it was clean it was very worn and dated. Our bathroom ceiling had a leak which I also raised with the reservations team. I know this is the reason for the renovations but we were not expecting poor quality rooms and a renovation in the future is of no benefit to us. I’m sure future guests will benefit from the renovation however for us to experience was a real disappointment as it was an expensive holiday after a year of hard work.
