About the Hotel

Econdido Oaxaca is the new addition to the Grupo Habita collection of unique hotels that use architecture, design, and history to provide an authentic experience to guests. Tucked away in one of the most culturally-rich places in Mexico - Oaxaca City - resides Escondido Oaxaca, a Hotel whose main mission is to represent all that is authentic. We have recovered the original construction to house the restaurant, bar, “Culture Room”, patio and four rooms. A contemporary tower was added to the back of the Hotel where eight more rooms are located (two with patios and six with balconies). A mix of old and new; honoring the great wealth of Oaxaca: the savoir-faire of its artisans. Note that this hotel can be noisy.

Great experience

Room was very comfortable, beautiful view of the city and hotel overall had amazing design with very good service. Staff was very attentive. location was convenient, albeit off the Santa Domingo. Easy access to the town, but also easy to get in/out for airport and excursions.

Escondido Oaxaca for the win

This was a fabulous hotel. We were talking today before we left how everyone looked after us like it was a family run hotel. We need to learn more Spanish because the staff were so apologetic when we didn't understand them. THe location is great fir a short walk into the peak areas for the parades and music. And our balcony room allowed a view of the sunrise and we could hear the music from Zocalo! I also benefited from the 25 min walk-up to Cerro el Fortin. Nice breakfast. Great cocktails. But simply lovely staff around the clock. We will be back.

Hotel Escondido for the Win!

I have been to Oaxaca multiple times and prior to this trip, always stayed at another boutique hotel in town. Because of a change in management and some questionable service at my "regular" place, I tried Hotel Escondido for one night this trip and I am SO GLAD I DID. I will only stay at Escondido moving forward. Here's how they outdid their competition: 1) Front desk was responsive, friendly, and authentic in being so. 2) helped out with every question in a friendly and kind manner, and seemed genuinely happy to help patrons rather than in it for the extra charges and kickbacks that might be available (this is a general observation of mine that I have witnessed increasing at the alternate hotel over the years). 3) Rooms are beautiful, well appointed, and comfortable. Please note there is not air conditioning, which may be an issue depending on time of year for travel. There is also outside noise due to the traffic and where the hotel sits, but this is not the fault of the hotel or its wonderful staff. But worth a mention if you are a light sleeper or bothered by traffic noise -- big trucks going uphill are really loud no matter which room you have here. One thing the hotel might consider is supplying guests with earplugs automatically as a preemptive remedy. I want to give a special shout out to Yael, Iselle, and Sambino, who are wonderful to work with there and good humans. Billing was straightforward and easy to understand, with no surprise charges or errors (another issue I had with Hotel #1 and where Escondido was noticeably better in service). My new home away from home when in Oaxaca!

Wonderful hotel and restaurant!

The building is beautiful, inviting, quiet, and comfortable. The kitchen and bar staff spoiled us with amazing food morning and night. The front desk helped us with every request. The room was small but so well designed, with lovely touches everywhere! Highly recommend for a stay in lovely Oaxaca!

Charming but uncomfortable

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We visited Oaxaca for a special birthday and chose Hotel Escondido based on its Design Hotels designation and location. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and the location was great. Beds are very comfortable. The overall vibe is charming and chic. Sadly, form didn’t follow function in our rooms. Like the overall design, the lighting was very minimal throughout the room making it difficult to put on make-up or blow dry our hair. The space in the bathroom was extremely cozy. There are no hooks for towels or shelves for toiletries. And because the windows aren’t double-paned, the loud traffic from the intersecting busy streets and music from the hotel’s terrace as well as adjoining hotel terraces could be heard all night, making it difficult to get a good night’s rest. There were also property and room repairs taking place upon arrival and throughout our stay. One couple in our group had to change rooms because the hotel couldn’t get the wifi to work in their original room but then found that the air conditioner leaked in the new room. If you are a traveler who needs a quiet environment to sleep and space in your bathroom, other hotels in Oaxaca may better suit you.
