Occupies a historic building previously a convent and a prison. Public areas are gorgeous and the room s are very nice as well. Great location and service. Delightful stay.

It is difficult for me to write this review because I was looking forward to staying here and I’m afraid I was disappointed. The hotel itself is lovely. It is an old convent that has been converted and when we arrived we had a lovely tour where the history was explained to us. The staff are pleasant but you get the feel that they are a little jaded, some are a bit sullen but are all very polite. The main thing for me was that for such a high end hotel there is an air of stingy-ness. For example, I was really pleased to see that there was a coffee maker in the room and we could have coffee free of charge every day. However, I can’t drink coffee in the afternoon or evening, and there was no tea option. I explained that I didn’t drink black coffee, but they said that there was a charge for the milk of 86 pesos per cup. I’d brought my own herbal teas with me to drink in the evening, but there was no kettle to heat water. When I asked if I could have some tea in the room, they said they would have to charge me per cup. I appealed this and they said that the manger would have to decide and get back to me. I called the front desk and they said that they couldn’t help me. No one got back to me. When we spoke to somebody at the desk on checkout, he said that it was not good So I guess that had we spoken to the right person we might have had a different experience. I appreciate that there is a cultural difference, but either do not have coffee as an option, or leave a kettle in the room with a selection of options. In other hotels in Mexico, both less and more expensive than this one there has been a little welcome card, sometimes with local chocolate, coffee or craft. This is a great idea because not only does it tempt you to buy more, it leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling for very little outlay on behalf of the hotel. On arrival there was none of this although we did have two small chocolate raisins each on turndown the first evening and a teeny tiny packet of chocolate covered cacao nibs the second night. A nice touch but the size of the portion was so small, had I not had the experience with the tea beforehand I may have been more grateful but to me it added to the pinching vibe. I suggest adding a welcome card on arrival and maybe a small selection of samples. The other facilities in the room were lovely, you literally have everything you want. The beds are really comfortable and the linens are very good quality. The pool is lovely. If you want peace and quiet then I suggest you check to make sure that there are no events when you’re staying as this is also a wedding venue. There is a cute little market of a few stalls during the day where you can buy local crafts. Have a look around the shops first though to gauge prices and quality.

I was unable to stay at the hotel due to the Wildfires in Los Angles that destroyed my family home and put my mother in the hospital. The management reimbursed me for one night and they should have reimbursed me for my entire stay. The management showed NO COMPASSION for me or my family.

This is a stunningly beautiful historic hotel with so much charm and character. Bedroom was spacious and quiet with a huge bed and powerful shower. We were in one of the internal courtyard suites. There is a lovely pool and the hotel offers a good breakfast. Walking distance to all the sights and sounds of beautiful Oaxaca. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
