THIS IS NOT A 5 STAR HOTEL

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

My wife and I decided to visit Oslo for New Year’s Eve and looked at nice hotels near the city square and came across the Grand Hotel in Oslo, naturally we booked due to the aesthetic and rating but failed to read the reviews before booking, there is no service, no one to help you with your bags or even greet you when you enter but that wasn’t the worst was the room a standard room, it was the worst that I had ever seen for a 5 star room, small, no bathrobes, no way to control temperature. We could barely sleep because it was just too hot inside! We lasted 1 night and decided we couldn’t stay. You have been warned.

Not god

Tried this hotel as they were historically supposed to be very good. This is a good example of a cheap chain that will operate a recognized hotel. Scandic uses the name Grand hotel to make a LOT of money. We paid NOK 10,000. turn down service was non-existent, even though we had paid for it. The waiter spilled the champagne on my wife. We got 20 percent off the drink. I had to negotiate a solution so they washed her dress afterwards. Incredible... Here you pay to go in and out of the door at the Grand Hotel. You get just as much for your money to stay at Scandic Karl Johan or Scandic

Great location, the service was good, though I would've liked it if the person in the entrance opened the door for my wife when she was carrying her luggage, the front desk was really helpful and always had a smile, really good room, clean and spacious, recommended.

Iconic hotel let down by very poor food and inattentive service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Our first time back in Norway for 15 years we were so excited to be staying at this iconic hotel. Location, exterior and Christmas backdrop all magical. Rooms average but not what you’d expect of a 5 star and felt very bland. Sadly however the really lowlight was the inattentive service and especially the quality of food which was really mediocre and very much not 5 star. We had the Christmas Eve buffet and frankly it was like a school canteen in the way the food was presented (unappealing), cooked (meat and dish dishes all way over cooked and chewy) and choice (not much). Such a disappointment
