About the Hotel

The Korakia Pensione in Palm Springs, a Moroccan villa built in 1924, is a rare find. Scottish painter Gordon Coutts had been in Tangiers, and wanted to bring the style of the North African desert to this Southern California one. “Dar Marroc”, as he called his resulting escape, thus became a cultural oasis for local celebrities from Errol Flynn to Rudolph Valentino, and was restored in 1989 as “Korakia” (“black crow” in Greek). The house is a rare 1918 California adobe, with a keyhole-shaped grand entrance and ornate, Moorish wooden doors that whisper of glamour.

Incredible stay at the unique Korakia Pensione

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Korakia Pensione is one of those rare, unique and exquisite places that turned into a destination this spring - reading by the pool, sitting under the stars, and sleeping in amazing rooms (all different). The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the entire experience a totally relaxing getaway for the beginning of spring. I especially recommend the Mykanos and Casablanca rooms.

Love this place but less so lately

As a long time fan of Korakia my first stay being in 2000, I have been slightly disappointed in more recent visits. The quirky charms that came with the rooms were part of the experience when rates were 250-450 pn but now we're paying over $700 all in and you start expecting a way higher standard that really isn't there. I was in the Casablanca Suite which is one of my favorites due to it's private detached second floor location with great little kitchen, comfy bed, decent bathroom and private patio. Since my last stay they got rid of the closet (fine) and re arranged the seating to accommodate a desk with record player. Now I know the old record player thing is a fun feature you find in a lot of air bbs and such but it's getting to be a bit cliche and if a place is going to stick to that kind of feature it should have a better collection of records that are not all scratched, a better player, and maybe not taking up the best part of the room which used to have a cool sofa. I'm glad there are blinds on the windows it needed that but the blinds are cheap and they dont roll back up. I don't want to complain too much because the charm of teh place is still in tact but if prices are going to creep up like this to the point where they're competing with high end hotels then I think there has to be a step up in quality and amenities to suit. I would have liked to stay longer but not at $700 a night on a early weeknight getting to be off season. Also the kitchen no longer has dishes or anything to wash up with. The cool little shampoos are gone replaced with fixed pump action soaps, a lame lower budget feature you see in crummy hotels. Not a good trajectory overall I'm def a little bummed to see my favortite place in the desert erode in quality as prices creep up.

Relax and unwind

We loved our time at Korakia! The resort was excellent! From the morning coffee service and breakfast, beautifully appointed room and the evening movie we had a great time. Loved all the Fire and Water elements and would absolutely recommend this place for a relaxing vacation!

Magical

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Amazing Property and staff! We enjoyed our six nights in a bungalow. The property is magical and all the professional staff are wonderful. Very relaxing and great location. We would wish the owners increase the breakfast options is our only wish. We will return in the future. Thank you Alex, Lisa, Valeria and Vivianna.

Charming yet $900+ a night?

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Websites continue to be misleading. At $900/night plus fees one expects four seasons amenities etc. This charming old motel has lovely staff and serves nice complimentary breakfast. The grounds are charming yet simple. The Churchill room was charming in its own way but set beside the morning breakfast eaters ie four feet from our door and nearest the street- really left something to be desired. No tv. Ok. Fine. An archaic bathtub and shower just kind of a bummer. Clean and comfortable bed. Few outlets within the room and none bedside. Odd. Again, charming and lovely staff. But hacking rates during tennis and coming off like a five star just feels disingenuous and we won’t return.

My husband and I were thrilled to find a deal through Luxury Link making it possible for us to book the Orchard House, the premier room at Korakia Pensione in Palm Springs. We just got back from our trip, having spent 2 wonderful days in that beautiful room. The property itself is gorgeous as well. And all within 2-3 blocks of the main restaurant district on S. Palm Canyon Drive. We walked to dinner every night and when we returned, the romantic grounds are lit by Moroccan-style candle lanterns. It's truly a sight! The pool areas are pleasant and water is available during the day, although they could refill the ice and cups more frequently. We also received complimentary fruit smoothies while laying around the pool. The breakfast was served in the quaint courtyard outside the Mediterranean side of the property. The second morning my husband went over to the office (there are no phones for calling, but it wasn't a big deal) and asked if we could have breakfast delivered to our room. About 15 minutes later a nice gal showed up at our gate with hot breakfast on a tray. The breakfasts were by no means fancy or gourmet, but they were both hot and tasty. And there were plenty of oranges, likely from the citrus grove inside the Orchard House gate. But the best part was our room. The pictures online don't do it justice. The space is large and feels both rustic and luxurious. Once inside the gate, closing a few curtains makes the space completely private. We sunbathed on our veranda and read in the shade of the private citrus grove. It would have been nice to have used the waterfall-fed whirlpool, but it itsn't heated and didn't get warm enough to enjoy. We figure they must change the water after every guest, so if you stayed for a week or if it was summer, the water might get more pleasant. We never used the dining room, but enjoyed have the kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator/freezer. It made it possible to eat lunch of cold cuts, cheese, bread and fruit. The atmosphere was perfect for it and made the vacation more affordable. Overall we had a wonderful time. Korakia Pensione was just the place to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. It's a splurge, but we highly recommend it. -A. Shrive
