About the Hotel

At only 20 minutes from touch-down to sand, El Mangroove is a contemporary boutique hotel with a unique personality. It contains 85 bohemian-chic suites surrounded by forest, beach and mangrove that are only steps away from the ocean. Large rooms, with seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces, create a comfortable and relaxing haven. The suites are situated within 3 two-story buildings, which are set in front of glass-like water mirrors and nestled amongst the mangrove. The two on-site restaurants Matiss and Makoko offer a combination of laid-back modern cuisine and sensorial gastronomy. Service is personalized and attentive; guests call it outstanding. The resort captures the simplistic yet exotic character of Costa Rica, with natural wood furnishings, regional artwork and contemporary stone finishes. Rejected email and rejected call from the American

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

The food was good. I made my reservation with no issue and the price was great but we had to leave due to my daughter got ill after the 3rd day and her issue gotten worse therefore we had to leave back to the states, due to her unexpected illness. I notified the staff.....but prior the first night the clean up crew took our $75 undergarment, (bra) and we notified them, second incident my daughter had just bought her favorite body cream from trader joes and the clean up took half of it. We thought well maybe she/he wanted to smell better... no issue we did not report. When you attend in costa rica learn the language is a must. Another main issue upon my exiting the hotel the young lady assisted at 8am and she was really nice and I paid the full amount with no issue...we checked out on November 7, 2024 they charged my account $350 for an early exit the next day, which I was not informed during the reservation, entrance of checking in or exiting and paid the full amount. This was the worse experience to have from Marriott and staff to take advantage of the customers. No one wants to pick up the phone when they see an American call, the manager Antonio Cubillo claim he sent me an email which I NEVER received therefore I had to call the Marriott back to inform them, I sent an email and it came back...yes it was rejected. Would definitely go again!

The room was spacious, modern and clean. Upon entering the room, you're actually in a screened in porch, which is separated from the air conditioned bedroom, bathroom, shower, and spacious closet by a locked sliding glass door. The beds were very comfortable; the rain shower was awesome. The grounds were well maintained. The adult pool was as beautiful and as peaceful it looks in the pictures. There is a separate pool for families with children - a separation that was enforced by the staff. The staff was plentiful, pleasant, and polite. There are two dining options, which are adjacent to each other. The poolside restaurant/bar offers a more kid friendly menu. The main restaurant has a separate vegetarian menu Costa Rica offered lots of activities off-site as well that were easy to arrange.. thanks to the local expertise nomadtourscr who was always available to help with rides to/from the airport and local excursions - we toured the Hacienda Aromal, Waterfalls, Rincon de la Vieja volcano hike and took some water activities, we couldn't have asked for a better way to end the summer as a family. We will definitely be coming back

Love Costa Rica, great tours!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

This was our first time visiting Costa Rica and my husband wanted to stay at El Mangroove so I booked the trip and started planning! We booked with Costco Travel and it made it smooth with not having to worry about airport transfers. They took care of getting us to and from the airport. The resort was beautiful with plenty of activities. It was so neat seeing all of the wildlife on property especially the howler monkeys!  We booked excursions with local tour guides, nomadtourscr We did the Magic of the Rainforest and Unique Volcano Hike , We took a private boat ride around Papagayo Peninsula, and it was an amazing experience. We had a great time snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, and the snacks were outstanding. Overall, the trip was fantastic—highly recommended to enjoy the beauty of the area." Gabriel not only helped us with the tour but he also went above and beyond finding a few items that we were unable to find on our own.We will definitely visit Costa Rica again in the future since there is so much more to do and see!

My third visit - one of the top boutique hotels in Costa Rica

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

El Mangroove continues as one of my favorite hotels in the world, this was my third visit. The experienced staff - particular compliments to Adrian running the valet/bell stand and Fabian at the water sports kiosk - always impress. The staff is relaxed because they know you’re on vacation, professional, anticipate guests’ needs (an umbrella placed in the car if rain is forecast) and clearly love their property. The staff pointed out the improvements since I was here last year - USB-A and USB-C plugs by the bed, plus modernized temperature control panels. It’s excellent to see that the Owners/Management continue to invest in their property, The rooms and pools are always gorgeous, comfortable and meticulously clean, I love the chocolate-sand beach with lots of natural tree shade, gentle waves and beautiful views of Culebra Bay. The food is excellent and moderately-priced for a gorgeous 5 star hotel. Because it’s boutique size (under 100 rooms), you’re always known to the staff, no competing for lounge chairs and at peace. Look forward to seeing my El Mangroove amigos next year, pura vida mis amigos

Beautiful Resort, Super Friendly Staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Great hotel! This was our first resort on our first visit to Costa Rica, and it was absolutely fantastic. All of the staff were very nice and accommodating, the facilities were very clean and felt safe, the food was bomb, and the hotel itself was absolutely beautiful. On top of this, it’s only a 30 minute drive from Liberia which was so nice as we arrived at 7am in the morning. We did three excursions and used nomadtourscr . Gabriel helped me organize my tours, everything I asked for was done.. excursions we booked La leona wáterfall hike, buena vista adventure and jet ski tour with him came with transportation. Every excursion we did was amazing!! I highly recommend this resort!!
