Reviews for Andaz Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo

Pura Vida in Luxury

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 hours ago

Everything you could wish for in a Costa Rican hotel. The staff embodies the true spirit of Pura Vida—warm, gracious, and genuinely welcoming, making you feel at home from the moment you arrive. The rooms are not only beautiful but thoughtfully designed for coastal living, featuring indoor/outdoor showers and smooth concrete floors that make it easy to shake off the sand. The aesthetic strikes a perfect balance between refined elegance and laid-back charm. The property is expansive, perfect for peaceful strolls, with golf carts readily available when desired. Monkeys roam freely and often make their voices heard. The entire experience felt effortless, inspired, and distinctly Costa Rican. Simply fantastic.

This is one the best Hyatt resorts I have stayed. Everything was great, the property, the weather was warm and staff even warmer and friendly. The food and breakfast was good. The food at Ostra was awesome. Ths staff anticipated our needs. Thanks Pura Vida!!

Family trip

Truly a 5 star experience. We can't wait to return. The Easter egg hunt was great and so was kids club! Everyone was so happy. Food was much better than expected, at all restaurants. Natural beaches with gorgeous clear water, as well as pools without obnoxious music made for the perfect holiday.

Very enjoyable mostly great

My wife, my teenage son and I spent Spring Break week there and for the most part I loved it. A couple of mixed items. On the positive side, staff across the board were friendly and accommodating - at times it felt like the staff outnumbered the guests, even during a sold out Spring Break. Food across the board was very good, especially at breakfast. Though after a week I felt like I was a little tired of it. Special call out to Dive Bar in the marina as a good change of pace, it’s a nice walk, though not lit for the return walk so make sure to use WhatsApp to request a return shuttle if its after sundown. The off campus beach was a delight. Beautiful, well staffed, good food and full of wildlife. Definitely the highlight of the trip, though the boat is way too infrequent - starting late, ending early and taking an extended mid-day break. Rooms and grounds were fine. Nothing to complain about but not particularly luxurious either, especially for the price that week. I found the room fine, if a little corporate. You’ll get woken up every morning by Howler Monkeys but that’s why you’re in Costa Rica right? I noticed a lot of notes about the hills here. I did not find it any worse than other beachfront resort and golf carts were readily available to pick you up as needed. Resort charge is a joke - having it be a percentage of room rate, especially when rooms vary dramatically in price was a new one to me. If anyone reads this, I’d also highlight that see-through toilet doors with a motion activated light is not a good idea in a room people share. Two big negatives - as a first timer to Costa Rica, I did not realize how far away the resort is from everything else. We did some off resort excursions but be prepared for at least 3+ hours total travel time counting return trip. This is not a place to stay if you’re looking to explore CR and you’re pretty stuck with the limited and overpriced peninsula trips. Second, for as nice as the other beach is, I’m somewhat surprised that they seem to have completely given up on the close ones. Minimal signs at either that its part of a resort outside of a couple of beach chairs. For what it’s worth - prior to coming we debated between the Andaz and the Four Seasons. We took a trip over for one dinner and were glad we picked the Andaz. The Four Seasons was very nice but was indistinguishable from any other high end tropical resort. It felt significantly larger (giant pool areas) and not at uniquely Costa Rican. In the end, would I return? Maybe? No major complaints about the hotel and I enjoyed my stay but I would definitely break it up with another location for variety.

Hotel management lied about the prices

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Do not book this hotel. The management lied about the all-inclusive rate and tried to over charge us for many things while we were there. The beach club was closed. The watersports provider was ridiculously expensive. The good thing about this hotel was the sushi chef.
