Bad management and unresponsive Customer support

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Really bad hotel rooms and terrible service… staying in a suite and there is no coffee table nor a side table, just a desk under the TV that is unusable for anything… terrible furniture and suite decor… At best a 2* hotel with 5* marketing… front desk mentions no upgrade available despite availability… despite few reminders they ignored arranging a table or better room… some discrimination or something is going on that you feel like you are not welcome… very unresponsive and bad service that management cannot care to fix… can’t wait for checkout time… these feedbacks don’t get any response from management…

Beautiful Resort but many fees, remote location and small amenities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

There are better places to stay. Let me start with I travel to AZ ALOT. ALOT. Like 10-15 trips a year. My impression of Royal Palms Resort and Spa? Not the best. I just got off an online "chat" with the hotel about my last weekend stay there, 8/15-18. I thought it was a great deal...a summer play and stay with resort and parking fees waived. (Resort Fee $50/day plus $40/day valet (NO SELF PARKING). I added a "Booking Experience", the Mixology class. It was complimentary for a guest. So I booked it before my trip and received an email confirmation. Day of, I drove back specifically for the Experience and the instructor never showed. The bartender felt bad, was super apologetic and gave me 2 comp drinks and showed me how to make a drink I like. I appreciate the attempt to smooth over, but it seems I was the only participant. I suspect because it was complementary they just decided not to show. SO- I chatted about it just now with Online Support and was told they will "discuss the situation with management". And give me 5,000 points for my trouble.? That is enough to make me rule out staying here again. I was willing to overlook what I'm mentioning now because after how I just got treated I'll spend my money where I'm remembered. By the time my bill came with all the extra fees and taxes I could have stayed for less and had a more memorable time. About the hotel: There is no "lobby", just a small Reception Room, so no main place to gather inside unless you are in a restaurant or meeting room. The grounds are stunning but are not clearly signed and easy to get lost, in the August heat no one wants to wander. The pools are small for the size of the resort and on the weekend you will hear music you make or may not like. The location of the property is beautiful but not close to much. My room was on the second floor and I heard every door in the hall, people talking and walking, worst of all I heard my upstairs neighbors every time they walked. The hotel FORCES you to valet ($40/night along with a resort fee on top of that) and THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION FOR PARKING. The gym is very small and hard to find. The absolute best part is the restaurant T. Cook's and the bar, MixUp. Every meal I had was picture-worthy and perfect. The drinks are all attractive and while pricey worth a splurge for one. The staff is so friendly and the live music was really fun. My advice is to skip the hotel and go for the food or happy hour drink. Other than the beautiful grounds and lovely staff I feel like the hotel overlooked a guest. Bad for business.

One of my Favs

This property is a must see in Phoenix. I’ve been coming here since the 80s and it just continues to delight me.

Old/hot/small resort property in an inconvenient spot. Avoid this and choose one of the newer/cleaner/larger resorts.

Pass on this property. It’s overpriced when in-season, and while cheap in the off-season, the grounds make it difficult to enjoy as it’s almost entirely outdoors making it far too hot of a property due to the Phoenix heat. The location of property is my first hang up. You’re essentially stuck on the grounds as there’s really not anything convenient close by. There’s a lot of larger / newer resorts in Phoenix that are closer to big shopping complexes offering more + convenient selections of off property bars + restaurants + shopping. The rooms are older and feel like it. For example, we were on the second floor and the floor would squeak anytime you walked. Property is dated. The pool is nothing special. Relatively small. The restaurant/bar is a highlight - especially the staff, live music, and happy hour. But, since there’s not much around the area you really only have this option. The hotel forces you to valet ($40/night along with a resort fee on top of that) and there’s no other option for parking. For a city like Phoenix that has such a sprawl, it’s really frustrating to be forced into nearly $100 in fees before you even start paying your base rate. The gym is pretty (two stories) but it’s pretty small and doesn’t offer much. There are so many newer / larger / more convenient / cleaner resorts in Phoenix that I really don’t if understand why anyone would choose this option. There’s really no benefit / perk. Lastly, I did find the staff to be quite snooty. There were multiple instances that different staff members were very “matter of fact” and treated me as if it was privilege for me to be staying there rather than a well-trained employee who was attempting to be polite / accommodating to a paying guest. Lastly, if you’re a World of Hyatt member, expect essentially zero “above and beyond” service from this staff. This is especially true if you’re a Globalist. Likely one of the worst experiences as a Globalist I’ve ever encountered. The staff could absolutely care less. I feel the staff at the property could use a refresh on how to properly treat paying customers.

We booked the 4-night package on Luxury Link and it was well worth it. The package was an amazing value! My wife and I spent four days there and wish we could have spent a few more. The food at T. Cook's was the best I have had in a while. The menu also offered a local-products-only meal, which was terrific. The spa was very nice and we fully enjoyed each of our treatments. The rest of the time was spent laying by the pool, shopping in the Scottsdale mall, and playing golf. I would recommend Royal Palms Resort and Spa to any and all.
