Stayed May 2026 in a non-preferred sea view room. The hotel and grounds are beautiful, and we appreciated that the location was just a 10-minute taxi ride from Playa del Carmen as well. Loved the size and the styling of our room, especially the bath on the balcony. The upgrade to a sea view was definitely worth it for us, as it looked like some of the standard garden-view rooms could have been quite dark, potentially just looking out into foliage. There is also the start of building work on one side of this block of the hotel (though at the minute it’s essentially a dusty car park) so I made sure to ask for a sea view room on the other side facing over the pools because I think some of the sea view rooms may well be on the “car park” side as well. One of the hotel’s biggest selling points is its large lagoon pool, which we visited most days of our trip. There are a number of other pools including the “party” pool nearest the sea, but for us the lagoon pool was the nicest and plus had the comfiest sunbeds. The beach area wasn’t particularly large, though I have seen worse. However, in May the sea was full of seaweed, so no one was venturing in. Some days the smell of it was quite intense as well. It was buffet for breakfast and lunch, with the option of Asian food at Bamboo, the sea food restaurant by the beach and the bare foot grill if you wanted to take something back to your sunbed (very little seating) for lunch too. Dinner there was a Mexican, Italian, steak house, French and Japanese. Reservations via the app were requested for all of them apart from the Mexican which is walk in only. I think you can walk in and ask for a buzzer at the others if you haven’t reserved but might have to prepare for a wait if so. We found using the app quick and easy and always got the times that we wanted. The rule about men wearing long pants indoors only seem to be enforced at the French restaurant (where you could still sit outdoors in shorts but fair warning it was sweaty) whilst all the others were relaxed about shorts inside and out. Loved all the food in all the restaurants. Personal favourites were probably the French and the Japanese. Every evening they have live music on at the Bamboo restaurant overlooking the pool from 7pm, which is a really great way to start the evening with a drink. We never went to any of the theatre shows because we were normally still having dinner, but the speakeasy style nightclub hidden behind the pharmacist was fun, and probably the coldest place in the whole resort! Great service all round. Especially from Gustavo and David by the lagoon pool who helped us with our beds each day (and cleaned our sunglasses for us!), Guadalope who kept the drinks coming and Kimberley who was waitressing in Bamboo the evenings we were there and who would have our chosen drinks ready when we arrived by the end of the stay! We loved it here and would 100% return. So much so that we’re considering it for our Mexico vacation in 2027 now too. Depending on the cost, we’d consider upgrading to Preferred to try out the Observatory pool on the rooftop and the extra a la carte options for breakfast and lunch.

My overall experience was really bad. I will never Come back to that resort. We visit so many secrets resorts and I think this one was the worst.

Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay at this resort. The property itself is beautiful, the rooms are modern and comfortable, and there were several standout staff members who made the experience even better. Our favourite restaurants were Bisou, Ember, Dos Almas, SeaSoul, and Bamboo. You can definitely find a good dish at every restaurant, but these were the ones we enjoyed enough to revisit during our stay. I was pleasantly suprised by Bamboo, I wasn't expecting much from this Thai restaurant, but the food here was pretty good. I really like how the resort has SeaSoul and Bamboo as sit down, lunch options. On the other hand, our least favourite restaurants were Allora and Suki. I was actually pretty disappointed with Allora. While the pizza was decent, I thought the vodka pasta sauce was quite bad and couldn’t even finish the dish. As for Suki, the sushi wasn’t very good (not shaped well, mushy rice, sashimi was fishy), although to be fair, I wasn’t expecting amazing sushi from an all-inclusive resort. I did think some of the fried dishes there were decent though, especially the rock shrimp, brussels sprouts, and crispy rice with spicy tuna. For the breakfast buffet, I was disappointed that the hash browns were never crispy. However, I really appreciated the wide variety of fresh fruit available every morning. Also, huge credit to the staff working the omelet and quesadilla stations, they work incredibly hard, especially during busy breakfast hours. I thought the lunch buffet was just soso, we preferred SeaSoul and Bamboo much more. The Cenote pools were great for a quieter and more relaxing atmosphere. The main pool, however, felt a bit too crowded and busy, and it was difficult to find seating. I also found it surprisingly hard to locate pool concierges when we needed assistance with an umbrella. After about 10-15 minutes of searching, I eventually went to SeaSoul, where one of the front desk staff kindly helped me find someone. Room service was actually a pleasant surprise. We only ordered breakfast room service on our final morning because we had an early flight before the buffet opened, but we genuinely enjoyed it. The churros were especially good. Also loved being able to order burgers during the late night menu. The drinks could have been a bit more consistent depending on who made them, but overall I loved the margaritas here, especially the mango and passionfruit ones. We stayed in a Junior Suite with Tropical View, and the rooms were absolutely beautiful. One thing I especially appreciated was that the rooms included a steamer. Since I only packed a carry-on, it was really convenient not having to worry about wrinkled clothes or packing a travel steamer. CoCo Café was another highlight for me because they actually offer matcha lattes! Huge shoutout to David, Gerado, Suleima, and the rest of the CoCo Café staff for always being so warm, friendly, and hospitable. Lastly, I wanted to mention the activities. My partner and I really enjoy participating in resort classes and activities while travelling. I thoroughly enjoyed the Zumba classes, especially the ones taught by Dani! She’s incredibly energetic, fun, and a fantastic instructor. I would love to see the dance studio upgraded and possibly have some dance classes held in the gym space as well. I also wish there were more activity options overall, such as more dance, cooking, or art classes. For art classes, I only saw one tote bag painting class during our stay, but it was scheduled during dinner and held outdoors, which made it a bit inconvenient. Something really important I wanted to mention about the shows at the theatre is the use of flashing lights. There was no prior notice or indication that some of the performances contained flashing lights that may affect individuals with photosensitivity or potentially trigger seizures. At the end of one of the shows, I’m not sure of the cause, but we noticed a guest had fainted near the entrance. This raised some concern about the lack of warning provided in advance. Overall, despite a few areas that could be improved, we had a great trip and created a lot of wonderful memories here.

It's okay. It's hard to enjoy my stay at the Secret Moxche's because if its association with Hyatt and by extension, the company's decision to reward executives like Thomas Pritzker (named on the Epstein list) with lavish payouts which raises serious questions about the values behind this brand. If a company is willing to turn a blind eye to such egregious ethical failures at the highest levels, what does that say about their commitment to integrity, safety, and accountability? As a Hyatt memmber, I expect better. Lastly the premium liquor was watered down and just another way they cut corners while charging top dollar.
