Nice couple of days at Grand Papua hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Papua hotel for 2 nights. The hotel had security (for transfers, out front and the actual building), the room was spacious if older in style (note that whole hotel is currently being made over so we got a room that hadn’t been yet) and the reception staff were very helpful. We ate in the restaurant whilst we were there. Service was up and down in standard. When it was down some food was never added to the system to be made and it was sometimes hard to get the servers attention. When up, the servers were genuinely smiling and attentive. The decor was very nice. The food was well cooked, delicious and in above average portions. The view from the 15th floor both east and west was stunning. If I’m being picky there were a few things that could have been better, but for a couple of days it was a nice stay.

Unprofessional Waiters and Waitresses of Grand Papuan Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The hotel facilities are excellent, including food, car park, gym, the room, and the reception staffs. The Hotel General Manager and the foreign chefs are very excellent people. The only issue is the local waitress and waiters. They need to be trained somewhere in Australia to be exposed to high level of customer service so that they know what level of customers services they need in order for them to perform well in that hotel. They need more training. I stayed 4 nights and when I go to the restaurants, I would sit there for more than 15 minutes before being served even though there were very few clients in the restaurant. They can just walk past you and not indicaticating to you that they will attend to you or not. I have to wave to them every time for them to come to me so that I can place my orders, otherwise I just sat there few more minutes. Very frustrating. I am not sure if they love their job or not. On the third night, one of them accused me for not paying my bills. She rang me to my room and told me to return back to the restaurant and pay the bill. I was so frustrated because my bills were charged to my room. I explained to her until she realised her mistake. That shows that she was not concentrating on her job even though there were less than 10 customers at that night for dinner. Definitely, the waitresses and waiters need to be trained better and they must change their attitude. After all, it's the customers that pay for their wages.
