Our vacation started off a bit slow as the check-in process took longer than expected. However, one of the bellmen armstelly sorry I might spell his name wrong, but he stated he went by telly. He made all the difference with his warm attitude and helpfulness. He checked in to see if everything was alright, offered us rum punches, and brought our bags to the room. He recommended we try Grouper’s, which turned out to be one of the best meals we’ve ever had a 10/10 experience. We saw Telly often during our stay, and his friendly energy always made us feel welcome. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to say goodbye, but his outstanding hospitality left a lasting impression. Not only that the staff overall were incredibly attentive, always greeting us warmly and asking how we were doing. The rooms were beautifully designed, the shower was 10/10, and breakfast each morning was delicious. The beach, with its crystal-clear waters and soft sand, was simply stunning. This trip was truly memorable, and we can’t wait to return!

Turks and Caicos Ritz Carlton This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken and a big part of it was due to the people who work at the Ritz Carlton. My wife and I are each Lifetime Titanium Bonvoy members which means we have stayed at many, many Marriott and Ritz properties. We decided earlier this year that to celebrate our daughter’s 30th birthday we’d take her and her fiancé along with our son and his girlfriend to a place that we’ve always wanted to visit: Turks and Caicos and the most obvious option for us was the Ritz which was built about 3 years ago. Before we came to the hotel, we got in touch with Florence, the Rooms Operation Supervisor and she was terrific, our MVP! She offered suggestions of places to eat, helped us book massages for all of the women, and finally, helped upgrade us to a beautiful suite with a connecting room for the kids. (I actually got a phone call from one of her colleagues, Andrise a day before we arrived, confirming everything.) The suite with the connecting room allowed us all to be together every single day. Florence also set up the room with fresh fruit, champagne, balloons, a big “30” taped to the windows, a Happy Birthday video playing on the TV when my daughter arrived and even sent us a cake on her actual birthday. Overall, the warm touch that she and her team put on our special week made us all feel very special. The folks working at the Ritz were always so focused on taking care of us too. From James who heads up the beach operations, to Calvin who walked over from where he was working at the pool to set me up on the beach early several mornings, to servers like Javin and Keny who were incredibly attentive to our needs, we truly felt special. And the people here added a personal touch in many instances….they knew us by name, they knew the actual day of my daughter’s birthday, they knew how long we were staying and they always checked in to make sure we were getting all we ever wanted. Oh, and a shout out to Kendra who took care of my wife when she arrived late to get the coffee in the lobby one morning too! As Elite members, we were invited to and attended a cocktail hour on Wednesday where we met Louella, the General Manager, Wilbert, the Hotel Manager, and Varun, the Director of Food and Beverage. When we ran into each of them throughout our stay, they always asked us how we were doing and whether there was anything they could do to make our stay more special. Ironically, there are a number of folks at the Ritz who have come from the Marriott Grand Cayman hotel (which we visited about half a dozen times and) which I have written about in the past as our favorite hotel anywhere due to how much the people who work there cared about their guests. People like Andrew who was the rooms director there for many years, Patrick, who took care of me when I walked into a chair and cut open my shin, and of course Noelia who has just started as the Front of House Manager. As I told her when she arrived, the people at the Ritz made us feel very special, just like her colleagues did back at the Marriott. (We missed Rasheed, who was away this past week but who was super helpful to us in the past too!) Other notes - They have a very nice Adult pool with Cabanas and lots of chairs along with a family pool where you can wade in…perfect for kids. Housekeeping kept our two rooms nice and dropped off little chocolates every night with the turn down service. One time, when they ran out of chocolates, the front desk gave my wife and daughter an entire bag of them (yum!) They had outstanding entertainment at the outdoor bar, next to Casa Nonna, their restaurant. They also had very good entertainment in the Lobby Lounge, called Noori, especially Raj the Entertainer last Friday night! The casino there is not huge but very manageable and the folks working there are friendly. We played some blackjack, craps, roulette and 3 card poker…along with some slot machines. And as a Bonvoy member with the app, they gave me a $40 credit to use on the slot machines. I also entered a raffle for a jeep – fingers crossed on that one. There were definitely things that we missed out on this past week though - for example, they have free water sports which we never got to….there is also a life-sized chess set that we never played on, and my wife saw folks doing yoga and pilates – all reasons to head back this coming January. As for the beach, the ocean water itself is a beautiful turquoise color, and we brought blow up, plastic floats with us to float on each day. It’s a beautiful beach for walking and you can walk for a while in each direction. You can take a ferry to Middle Caicos (we’ll do that next time) and we definitely recommend at least one snorkeling boat ride. We took one and visited Iguana Island, the shipwreck, toured a canal, and snorkeled at a nearby reef. We may do a sunset cruise that leaves from the Ritz next time too. Our best meal on the island was at Coco Bistro – we ate there twice. You can either cab it ($6 per person) or walk it. We also had a wonderful meal at Grace’s Cottage, a French restaurant also in walking distance, and very much enjoyed the Almond Tree. We also ate at Mango Reef which is next to a Marina, although we didn’t love that one as much. So to sum up, we had a fantastic vacation – the beach was beautiful, the two pools were very nice, and the people working at the Ritz were really outstanding…as Noelia said to me, ”We want this to be your home away from home.” And it was…we look forward to coming back in January. 😊
