Reviews for Barcelo Puerto Vallarta

We had a great week at Barcelo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 hours ago

Despite being a bit far from PV the location worked out since we were within walking distance to the zoo and a quick bus ride to Boca to hire a panga. Our room was spacious and the beds comfortable. My kids enjoyed the pool and the activities for Easter through the kids club. The pool bar staff was exceptional. I was hoping to drink some really great coffee at the resort as we had at the Barcelo in Huatulco but it’s definitely not the same quality. My kids loved the Italian restaurant but in my experience the best food to eat in Mexico is Mexican. Overall, I’m glad we chose Barcelo is Mismaloya.

Would not stay her again. This hotel was about 45-60mins from airport and to go into the city was always a 30-45min drive. Good thing is the Ubers were super cheap. Always paid $10-$15 to go anywhere. The taxis located everywhere were at least $25 no matter where you went. The food was the worst at the hotel. Highly recommend staying somewhere closer to town with better food.

Average - Not worth it

I arrived at Barcelo Puerto Vallarta on Wednesday, April 16th, shortly after 4:00 PM. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a staff member who opened the door to my Uber—an appreciated gesture that set a positive first impression. However, the check-in process was less efficient. Although I was the only guest at the reception area, I had to wait a couple of minutes before being assisted. Once helped, the receptionist was courteous and thorough, providing a comprehensive overview of the resort’s amenities via a detailed pamphlet. This included information about pool and Jacuzzi hours, nightly entertainment, gym access, restaurant hours (including buffet and à la carte options), room service, and general rules regarding towels, lounge chairs, and room keys. Unfortunately, towel cards were unavailable at check-in. I was advised to request towels directly at the towel station by giving my room number, which wasn’t ideal because when we did exactly that the gentleman handing out the towels ask for the towel cards and it got complicated…—especially when traveling with children eager to swim right away. The room itself was acceptable. Although I had reserved two queen beds, we were given a king bed and a pull-out couch in a separate sitting area. It wasn’t what I expected, but it worked out fine, especially since my daughter didn’t mind sharing the bed. The bathroom design was somewhat impractical: it featured only a partial glass door and lacked proper ventilation, causing steam to build up quickly and water to splash onto the floor due to the strong shower pressure. When attempting to make a dinner reservation for Friday, I encountered further challenges. The concierge was unable to book in advance and informed me that reservations could only be made the same day. Despite her assurance that there would be availability, by the time I returned the morning of our desired reservation, the restaurant was fully booked, with only a 9:30 PM slot remaining—far too late for young children. Additionally, other à la carte dining options were not suitable for my kids, which limited our choices significantly. The concierge was not particularly helpful or friendly during this interaction, which added to the frustration. The resort’s pools were pleasant, and the pool bar staff were friendly and accommodating. Dining at the buffet was average. While the food was not exceptional, it was generally acceptable. My children were able to find something to eat at most meals, although seafood night proved more difficult, prompting us to dine in town instead. Overall, my experience at Barcelo Puerto Vallarta was mixed. While there were some positive moments—such as the friendly poolside service and decent room amenities—several operational shortcomings, including reservation limitations, check-in inefficiencies, and the room layout, detracted from the overall stay. Given the range of options available in Puerto Vallarta, I’m unlikely to return or seek out another property within the Barcelo chain.
