Great Time with Yoga, Sloths, and More!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We celebrated my friend’s birthday at Le Cameleon Boutique Hotel in Puerto Viejo, and it was an amazing experience! The hotel offered a wonderful blend of relaxation and adventure. We enjoyed invigorating morning yoga sessions, a fascinating sloth tour, and a fantastic breakfast buffet every day. The cocktails were also top-notch, making for a memorable and fun stay. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a special and vibrant getaway!

Best place for a Couple

I went with my girlfriend to spend a weekend, we liked the breakfast and the easy access to the beach, plus good dining options near the hotel. the only bad thing was that we could hear the street too much in our room our recommendation is to look for a room near the pool and we would have liked a bar near the pool and more lighting in the pool on the beach club.

Not Great

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The photographs look like it's on the ocean, but the rooms are across the street from the ocean. The other “boutique” hotels in the area, like Banana Azul or Awa, were in much better shape, with better service and location, and they cost less - about $140-$150 per night in August for a similar room to the Le Camileon. But Le Chameleon was about 33% more at the time I stayed there. Also, they don't have a generator for power outages like most boutique hotels do, landscape isn't maintained well (pipes, and wires are exposed throughout), the sheets had brown stains and the rooms don't come stocked with typical amenities (no stocked refrigerator, no coffee, etc.) like you might see in a boutique hotel as they describe themselves.

Hotel lacks on customer service, cleaning procedures, hotel maintenance & management follow up

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Horrible experience! This hotel lacks on customer service, cleaning standard procedures, hotel maintenance and management follow upcommunication which is ironic since in their signature says “ Guest happiness team” To provide further detail on this: NOTE - The experienced issues below were cause hotel personnel; not by just one which also makes me wonder. 1. The receptionist team is seriously inconsiderate. When checking into the room, we arrived with my wife’s senior parents who were staying at another hotel. I asked if it was okay for them to come up with us while we changed since we were going to a wedding; however, the receptionist said that they were no allowed to come up since they were staying there. I asked if anything could be done since my wife’s parents were over 74 years old and was just looking for them to be comfortable while we changed but sadly was informed no again. I had to talk to another employee, explain the situation and was looking for an alternative while we went to the room and changed, who suggested for them to stay at the games room which had air conditioning. My in-laws stayed in that room but I did wonder why the front desk representative couldn't offer that. It felt like the front desk representative didn't really care about assisting. Isn’t that what par of customer service is? 2. Poor room cleaning When going upstairs to the room to get ready, my wife slipped twice while taking a shower. When coming into the room, we noticed that the room had a strong Clorox smell, which to us suggested that had been cleaned. What we didn’t considered is that too much Clorox residue left in the shower floor can make floor slippery when wet. We had to try to rinse as much of the Clorox off as possible left before my wife could continue taking her shower. Is this standard operating procedure for the cleaning crew? 3. Poor hotel maintenance. The room flooded when raining overnight. We arrived back after our engagement and crashed to wake up to the room flooded. What happened was that during the night it rained and seems the roof may have a leak which drained into the wall and then room floor. If there are water leaks, what else is the hotel not really maintaining? 4. No management follow through and/or communication When checking out, spoke to hotel management about the issues encountered to provide feedback so these issues do not happen to other customers, we provided pictures and then management checked the room to determine cause of the behavior which led them to believe of the roof leak and going within the walls. Management apologized and informed that they would refund fifty percent of the stay due to all of the issues encountered. These conversation occurred with two different managers since one was communicated when the issues occurred and the second when leaving to fly back home. Since we were leaving, the second manager, sent us an email as proof of the discussed and the refund. We were informed that the process would take about month, which thought it was strange for a refund process to take that long by no problem. However, four months later, three follow emails to determine the status of the refund, two phone calls to the hotel, received contact back from the hotel until American Express contacted the hotel to dispute the charge. Is this how hotel management operates? In conclusion, this hotel lacks several issues, it lacks customer service, has cleaning procedure issues, has issues maintaining the hotel and has a management team that does not communicate andor follow through. To me these are basic fundamental requirements expected for any hotel.

Best Place to Stay - Puerto Viejo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

I spent 4 nights here on a solo trip in mid-May. I had the most amazing experience. I can't say enough things about the people! For me, people make the place and this hotel was incredible. From the manager (who was always available), to Daniel and David (at front desk), and Hector who saved me when my AC went out. They go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcome and have a fantastic time. I would love to stay here again. I also got a 90-minute deep tissue massage and that is highly recommend. The masseuse did a wonderful job and I loved my massage. This location is top notch and right on the beach. I can't wait to come back!!!!!
