We stayed in the Villa Frida and also the Hotel Camelon. Both locations are fantastic - spacious, clean, and beautiful. But, the heart of our stay was centered around the outstanding service provided by Raymond and the staff. Tico to the bone, Raymond brought "pura vida" to life in his kind and professional attentiveness to our needs.

My family and I visited Puerto Viejo valentines weekend. Le Cameleon was highly recommended. Pros: 1. exceptional staff! Frank and Bismarck welcomed us, offered very tasty beverages, and escorted us to our room. It’s always good when hotel staff are warm and welcoming. They were also very child friendly. 2. The rooms are completely white. Even the floors. Gives a modern feel and a sense of cleanliness. They are also spacious, even the bathrooms. Our room was an ocean front that sleeps 4 but it could easily have slept 6 including the large L shaped couch. 3. The grounds were pretty, picturesque and felt like a small resort. Cons - 1. there was a large unsightly stain on the couch and many mosquitoes in the room at night. Carry me spray or mosquito coil and spray your room Before dinner. 2. The restaurant,GIGI Beach, has live entertainment on Saturdays which includes a nice fire show but the menu was limited and the food mediocre at best. Again- great service! The biggest CON was the smell of sewage which permeated the bathroom, seemingly from pipes. It was strong and distinct. The decor is eclectic- my kids may say the art was scary/ uncanny/ eccentric. Heads were replaced with inanimate objects, many photos did not show identifiable facial features, beach art could be seen as gothic. On balance we would return but hopefully the sewer smell can be dealt with .

We had booked three nights but decided to leave already after the first night. Here’s my reasons why: - ocean view rooms do NOT have ocean view, but are just located on the beach side of the road. None of our ocean front rooms was facing the ocean! - rooms are oddly decorated in all white feeling futuristic in the Caribbean… we had two rooms. Both rooms smelled bad of mold and in room 006 it was raining through the ceiling. I had to take my asthma spray three times during the night. - value for money is completely off. There are plenty of super nice alternatives downtown Puerto Viejo which I would recommend - eg Umami. - hotel is not walking distance to town. Hence count in tuk tuks on all trips. - staff is actually friendly. All though they promised me to return same morning with a solution to the rooms - I only once heard from them (despite trying to write them) once I had decided to move hotel. To sum it up - find many better alternatives in town…

While the staff were extremely friendly, we were disappointed with our room, as it was closest to the road, which can get loud with motorcycles and dirt bikes. The beach pool was under construction, which was also disappointing. The ocean area was beautiful and it was nice to have wait service and be close to the restaurant. I was not aware of any activities at all on the premises, despite what the description was regarding the "offered activities". That was disappointing, as we like to structure our day and try different things when we travel. The food and the drinks were good...overall I was disappointed by these things but was able to enjoy the beach and a margarita anyway.

Very nice hotel. One side is on the beach, the rest is across the street, literally in the jungle. I thought the room decor vibe didn't match the location, but that's my opinion. Walking distance to amazing restaurants and the State Park. Las Olas restaurant and La Nena were great
