Reviews for Eden Roc Cap Cana

Perfect Quiet Family Getaway

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Just returned last night from a wonderful trip. I don't normally leave reviews but this resort was so exceptional and I want to congratulate and thank the staff for making our stay as good as a vacation as we've ever had. I will say that if you're expecting the cookie-cutter glitz and glam of a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, you won't find it here. This resort is about "quiet luxury" and lives up to the Relais & Chateaux brand of understated elegance and sophistication. It's also what made it feel like a real vacation: it's the only place we've been to in awhile where you can truly, truly unplug, relax and veg out. I felt the true vacation was never having to fight for a lounge chair and never having to worry about wearing the perfect outfit because the vibe is casual with an emphasis on quiet and relaxation. The size of the beach and pool area is perfectly attuned for the number of people the resort can accommodate so it never feels hectic or crowded; just quiet and welcoming. It's a nice mix of both families and couples. The beach was also perfect not only for it's looks (which are spectacular - - clearest turquoise water and white sand), but also for its safety. There is a lifeguard and a safety line, as well as a barrier that keeps out seaweed. The swimming area is big enough to have fun and boogie board, but small and sheltered enough to be calm and safe, as far as ocean swimming goes. As a mom of two boys (ages 6 and 10), I was easily able to keep an eye on my kids while also enjoying a book while lying down on a chair. The pool, likewise, is very safe and relaxing for all ages. The only "negatives" were that the pool food service was sometimes slow and if you want to do other activities aside from pool and beach, it can take some effort since a number of the amenities are not close. That said, we had a great time renting a Moke vehicle (which is the best way to see Cap Cana) and visiting the horse stables was also a special treat. We were able to walk around freely and see the horses, which my kids loved. If we had more time, we would have also rented bikes (which is easy and on property) and visited the Scape Park (which appeared to be a day-long activity in and of itself). The golf course, too, looked spectacular. Finally, we LOVED our villa. We had a family pool suite and it was gorgeous. The villa was very spacious and sophisticated - - the kids loved having bunk beds and having our own pool in a quite backyard was ideal as well. In short, a very nice trip that will long be remembered.

Eden Roc is a special place in the DR

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Another fabulous week. We have stayed at Eden Roc in the past and it was exactly as we remembered. Welcoming smiles and very attentive staff. Stunning view from ocean front suite which was comfortable and nicely decorated. For those with bed issues, the beds are just right! Dining was what you should expect in a fine resort- we love the breakfast spread btw! Spa staff was attentive and services were very good. Golf course stunning- we had a wonderful caddy too. Beach by far is the draw to this resort- breath taking crystal water with a barrier for the seaweed that comes in the summer time. Beach service is quick and friendly. Pool was refreshing and never busy. We stayed in high season and it didn't feel like that at all. We enjoyed seeing some staff from our previous trip -says something about the resort and turnover. Eden Roc is a special place and I hope you enjoy a relaxing vac as we have.

Top notch experience

Absolutely incredible beach and pool situation. Food is as good as you’re going find - we especially enjoyed the ceviche and pizzas. Staff goes out of their way to keep you happy and without need. Especially Gustavo at the pool, couldn’t have been a better host.

Love our friend, Wilson! He took such good care of us during the week! Weather was perfect and golf was amazing! Staff was accommodating as always. View from our room was perfect! We will definitely be back again to enjoy the sun, salt, and mojitos!

Not Even Close to 5 Stars - Avoid This Spot At All Costs

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We’ve been to the Caribbean about 15 times in the last decade - we usually stay at the Dorado Ritz but have also tried Sugar Beach, Le Sereno and several others. We were a bit skeptical about Eden Roc but wanted to give it a chance based on many positive reviews. Unfortunately, this hotel in no way lived up to any of them and after five disappointing days, we felt compelled to share a review so others avoid this property. While the beach and water are indeed stunning, the property itself is incredibly run down. Dirty, light switches and appliances are broken, doors do not shut properly, walls need to be painted badly, balcony glass is barely being held together with repeated caulkings. The list could go on and on. The buildings look like they haven’t been updated in decades. Facilities are outdated and again, just dirty and falling apart. The massive pool was incredibly cold everyday - so bizarre when it’s so prominently advertised. Either there is no heating system or they don’t turn it on to save money. We barely saw anyone use it and although we had planned to be in daily with our toddler it was far too uncomfortable to go in at all. Service is hit or miss. Sometimes servers are very friendly. Sometimes it’s so obvious they want nothing to do with you that you avoid bothering them to ask for anything. Sometimes no one comes to ask for your order at all, even though there were usually 10 to 15 people standing around at all times. One day at the pool a woman came to ask our room number without taking our order and we never saw her or anyone else again. The food was by far the worst part of our stay. Just horrible. We ended up sticking with basic room service orders in the end as the restaurants were repeatedly abysmal. A steak ordered medium rare came out raw, was sent back and came out burnt to a crisp. Other nights the meat was beyond tough and chewy. Sushi was awful - bland and dull. Pizza was always served with limp, moist crust. The breakfast was the least offensive, but was in no way good. Dry omelettes. Runny yogurt. We truly have no idea why this place has a single great review and it seems likely the hotel is adding fake ones. Would avoid this place at all costs.
