I LOVE VILLA CALETAS! This is the most unique & beautiful hotel that I have ever stayed at. Each room is different and decorated in an eclectic style with antiques, private patios with beautiful tile, black iron details, huge pottery planters, toucans, monkeys, Infiniti pool, fantastic pool bar service, .....All sitting on the edge of a cliff above the ocean that gives you a spectacular sunset show every evening! The people are wonderful from the check in staff to the restaurant, and especially the pool bar....Hidel (not sure of his name spelling) made sure my margarita was made exactly right (not too acid) and checked back to be sure it was perfect! Everyone's attention to detail and wanting to make sure we were happy and taken care of was amazing. I asked the front desk staff (who make you feel so welcome with wonderful smiles) to watch one of my suitcases (long explanation) as I wanted to get to the pool, and they kept it safe until the next day (because I forgot to get it as I enjoyed my margaritas at the pool a little too much!) And shout out to the wonderful guys who carried my huge suitcases to our fabulous room (#22) -- you rock -you acted like it was no big thing but I know my suitcases weighed 50 pounds each and I had more than one. The breakfast that was included (as I booked directly with the hotel) was delicious and there were several delicious choices (I got the American breakfast that was complete with eggs, toast, fresh fruit, potatoes, ham or bacon, coffee and fresh OJ - YUM!!) all sitting on the restaurant balcony high on the cliff overlooking the ocean --- just doesn't get any better!! I could go on and on so.....Thank You Villa Caletas for a WONDERFUL, AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL vacation experience!! I will be back!

My best friend and I just got back from five days at Hotel Villa Caletas. We had an amazing time at this beautiful hotel. The hotel and property are massive. The hotel itself is two hotels: the main Villa Caletas and Zephyr Palace, which is on the same property, but not connected. Villa Caletas has the restaurant and the main lobby, etc., and Zephyr is its own little enclave with rooms themed on locations. While we were there, there were two weddings in the Palace, which I only know about because employees mentioned it. It made no difference in our experience at the pool (Zephyr has its own), nor did we have any problem eating at the restaurant whenever we wanted to. We stayed at the Barco Suite, an absolutely giant suite with two king bedrooms, a living room, and a double tiered 360* deck. The living room is right off of one of the bedrooms, so it's not totally private, but for me (who stayed in the smaller room), I spent most of my time while my friend was still asleep outside anyway, enjoying the massive and expansive views. We saw Scarlet McCaws flying around, regularly. I think there's five in the area? (Two couples and a baby, who is pretty big at this point?). We saw yellow beaked toucans, humming birds, and a bunch of other birds that I personally can't identify. On the morning we were scheduled to leave, a whole troop of white faced monkeys came trancing across our deck. Wild! The hot tub was also a lovely way to spend a quiet evening. There is a kitchen on the deck that is inside and locked. Apparently you can pay extra to have access to it. Not something that interested us, but I hadn't noticed anything about it on the website, so something to note. The suite is far from the main hotel area, as others have noticed. We had no problems getting someone to come fetch us. There were only two of us, and we were often a golf cart, but maybe that was part of why it was so quick and easy? Either way, absolutely no problems there. Same with room service. It took about 45 minutes, which seemed pretty reasonable to me. We went down to the hotel's beach. There's a mini restaurant down there, cocktails, cabanas, chairs, a full bathroom, a shaded area with couches. It's very nice. The water is super choppy, with lots of rocks. You can wade around in it, but definitely cannot submerge. Still it was a great way to spend a day. There's a juvenile sloth down there that Maria (the beach attendant) was happy to show us. And the McCaws settled into the tree directly next to us. The restaurant was delicious. Breakfast was included in our stay, and came with some great options. The papayas were amazing. Dinner had a selection of fish and chicken, and beef. It wasn't very "authentic" food, but all delicious. Huge portions. Fun themed drinks. The ceviche was my favorite. We did a day trip (arranged through the hotel) to Manuel Antonio National Park with a private guide, Marco. Truly amazing. We saw three sloths, two with babies! We saw a troop of spider monkeys making their way across the road in the trees, bats, white faced monkeys, a deer, some birds, a banana spider, snakes. Definitely go with a guide though. They bring along a telescope to see the animals up close, and half of them I never would have seen on my own. The beach there was fantastic. White sands, meant for swimming, etc. Be aware, you need to bring your own towel, and no food or plastic water bottles are allowed in the park. We applied bug spray before we left and had no problems at all. But there were people there with multiple bug bites, so definitely guys around. We also had a hotel arranged excursion to kayak and snorkel. There is a morning option or an afternoon option. We chose morning, and the guide told us that due to the tides, the afternoon snorkeling is not as good, so we made the right choice. It was nice to get out on the water, though I'd hardly call the trip exercise. But, we enjoyed it. All and all it was a wonderful trip. We didn't get a chance to take advantage of the spa, but it looked wonderful. We also missed out on the morning yoga because we were so enthralled by the monkeys, so I guess we'll have to come back. I'd definitely recommend it. Barco Suite is absolutely fantastic. The employees are wonderful. The hotel overall has a quirky charm to it, due to the owner (who lives on property in a home with what must be breathtaking views). He is a French Canadian architect who traveled the world buying interesting items and decorated the hotel with it. The buildings have so many nooks and crannies, and so much space. We were told that if we wanted to stay in the main hotel, to get room 10 or 16, incase you weren't in need of an entire apartment. All and all, amazing. So happy we did it. We will have a hard time besting this experience on our next trip.

Staying at the "Luxury" hotel was quite an experience, though not in the way I had hoped. Despite its boasting of a five-star status, the reality was a stark contrast, more akin to a single-star establishment. Upon entering the room, I was immediately struck by its musty, old smell that lingered in the air, reminiscent of a forgotten attic. The mirrors, intended to add elegance, were instead aged and damaged, barely reflecting anything but the room’s faded glory. The ceiling was peppered with water stains, hinting at past leaks while the walls wore similar marks, adding to the neglected ambiance. In the bathroom, mold stains decorated the tiles, a testament to years of inadequate cleaning and maintenance. I also found hair on what were supposed to be clean bathroom towels, adding a sense of neglect. The bathroom fixtures were rusty, and the lights flickered sporadically, further detracting from any sense of comfort or luxury. Navigating the hallways was an eerie ordeal, as they remained dimly lit both day and night, casting long, unsettling shadows. These corridors led to rooms filled with outdated furniture and bizarrely, decor featuring animal skeletons, which were more frightening than intriguing. The paintings on the walls were creepy and hung crookedly, adding to the unsettling atmosphere. In summary, "Luxury" fails to live up to its name and rating, offering a disappointing and overpriced experience that one would expect from a one-star hotel rather than the luxury it promises… I encouraged you to read reviews from previous guest. All the negative reviews are true. I would never stay in this hotel again and I definitely do not recommend at any price. It’s glory days are over!

Villa Caletas is absolutely stunning! Views are spectacular. Staff is amazingly friendly and welcoming. Rooms are nice, roomy, clean. Beautiful sunsets. Food is good, not great, but good. Drinks are good. Would definitely visit and stay here again. Such a unique and one of a kind boutique hotel. Thank you for your hospitality.

I arranged a honeymoon in Costa Rica with the majority of our time spent at Villa Caletas. We arrived at our hotel and were blown away by its beauty, a sublime harmony of architectural style and natural splendor. It's one of the nicest places I've ever stayed.

We stayed in Costa Rica at Villa Caletas. The experience provided us with a top-notch hotel room, unique and elegant, with added benefits like spa treatments, horseback riding, dinners with wine and so much more. With the quality of the facilities and the courtesy of the staff, every effort was always made to welcome us.

We stayed at the Villa Caletas for five nights in a junior suite. We LOVED staying at the boutique hotel in our own villa, with a hot tub on the deck, overlooking the ocean. And they threw in breakfasts and dinners, too! We travel a lot and this was the most amazing place we've ever been!
