Located in a building that, once upon a time, was head office for the National Bank of Canada, Hotel 71 is a stunning example of 19th century neo-classic architecture. The lobby is a welcome breath of modernity, with limestone walls and a walnut ceiling. The simple and elegant design glows in the sunlight that beams through the massive windows found in each room, some situated perfectly to offer views of the St. Lawrence and the city’s Old Port. All rooms are furnished with a spacious work desk, a DVD surround sound system and wireless internet access. The "Il Matto" Italian restaurant is consistently ranked amongst the best in the city.

We stayed at Hotel 71 after our cruise and were thoroughly delighted. It is a beautiful hotel, situated close to many famous sites all within walking distance. The hotel staff was very helpful and courteous. We plan to return just for a visit to Quebec City and stay longer at this lovely hotel. Many thanks to Hotel 71 for making our stay so pleasant.

I stayed at Hotel 71 for 2 days prior to a cruise mid September. From the moment I arrived to the time I left the service was exemplary. Check in was easy and quick. My room was on the 5th floor overlooking the Lawrence River. Walking in took my breath away, such high ceilings, it was a mix of tradition and industrial. Huge (very comfortable) bed, a Nespresso machine, fabulous bathroom and the most luxurious bathrobe. I loved the little touch of a water carafe and ice bucket, on the fifth floor there was an ice dispenser and filtered water machine. I got some fabulous views of the sunrise and sunset. Not only was there a Nespresso machine in the room, in the lounge next to the Lobby there was a coffee station, with take out cups. The location was perfect, literally a 5min walk to the Le Petit Champlain and the Funicular. So it was very central but also nice and quiet. I also ate in the Italian attached to the Hotel Il Matteo, the food was great and the service too. I would definitely come back to Quebec as I loved it and would stay at Hotel 71 again.

I can’t say enough good things about this hotel and it’s wonderful staff. Hotel is very pretty with a super comfortable lobby and sitting areas. They offer free hot beverages on the lobby floor. Despite my early check in, I got a room very quickly (thank you Rose!). Michel (the fabulous valet) brought my bags from storage to my room. The room (superior king) was delightful. Super comfortable bed and pillows. Quiet AC/ heat. Really plush robe. Great bathroom with fantastic products. Nespresso coffee machine. I especially loved the water pitcher. I went to the fifth floor and filled it with ice and water and enjoyed it all night. Very quiet room, even though it was close to the elevators. One of the best showers I have ever taken in a hotel (and I’ve taken a lot! Former business traveler). Your choice of rainfall, handheld spray, or both). Perfect water pressure. Shampoo and conditioner were incredible (I don’t usually use hotel products, but I knew they’d be great). Made my hair so soft and shiny. Check out with Gabriel was a breeze. Although this hotel is comfortable and well appointed, what really sets it apart is their kind and caring staff. Rose, Michel and Gabriel all went above and beyond to ensure that all of my needs were met. Thank you so much for a great visit. I will definitely return again.

We decided to stay in Lower Old Quebec as it is a bit quieter and we prefer not to stay in the middle of the action and just take a short walk to where we want to be. This is the perfect spot with quite a few room offerings to suit your needs. We chose the Deluxe King Bed Plus room which was a larger room on an upper floor. We had a great view, very comfortable room with a beautiful bathroom. Staff was fantastic from the time we arrived assisting with our luggage to our departure. Someone always around to help. There are quite a few choices to what seems like similar hotels very close to Hotel 71 but we were so happy with this stay, we would stay each time we are back in Old Quebec.

With all the construction around Quebec City it was a little difficult to find this hotel but we just followed the detour and ended up at the back door on a quiet cobblestone street where we could park while we unloaded. A porter helped us with our bags after check-in. The room was a wonderful combination of old and new with at least 12 ft ceiling and a large king bed and our own Nespresso machine for coffee. There was a desk to and Wi-Fi and air conditioning worked fine. Our view on the 3rd floor was not good......looked out at the roof of a museum we think it was, but enough light came in. The bed was comfy and all that was missing was any type of breakfast. We found some pastries on the walk up to the funicular since there was no restaurant or breakfast place nearby. Parking was in a separate public parking building not far away. The photo shown on Tripadvisor is of the front of the building. We'd definitely recommend this hotel for its proximity to the old town and to a boat tour. It was also near the hop-on hop off bus stop by where you get the boat ride (but the bus ride all around was way too long in our opinion!)
