Nestled between The Remarkables, the cerulean stillness of Lake Wakatipu, and a wild expanse of New Zealand bush, Azur is a remote hillside retreat that's only a five-minute drive from town. The stone and silver beech villas prove there is nothing more beautiful than nature itself: Glass walls and wraparound decks beckon panoramic views, while thoughtful touches like in-room aromatherapy burners stocked with essential oils invite a deeper sense of grounding. Before you decide to make that plush bathrobe permanent, remember this: Queenstown is a gateway to the kind of skiing, rafting, hiking and adrenaline activities that tops bucket lists.

Clearly, this is a beautiful property with great views and spacious rooms. But when you add on top of that how helpful and accommodating the staff was, that put our stay at a whole other level. And the breakfasts were fantastic. This was a splurge stay for us, but one that we'd happily repeat if we had the opportunity.

I’d love to write a positive review about this establishment but tbh I was really taken back by what was on offer relative to the price . There are very favorable reviews , but looking more closely many are from honeymooners . It’s possibly their first time in ‘luxury’ so opinions might differ but all feedback is valuable . Starting on a positive , the view is spectacular . The staff are very friendly and happy to help out where they can . Sadly , the rest didn’t meet my expectations. I paid nearly $2000 per night - having stayed at many hotels in this price range , I’m familiar with what other hotels offer . However …. The rooms are very dated decor , not changed for 10 years I’d guess so the room looks quite tired . The carpet was quite stained in areas . Bits missing off the headboard of the bed , random screws in tiling - overall want what one would call well maintained . The mattress was so uncomfortable it made my back ache after a few nights . The rooms face westerly and in January the sun can be searingly hot - it’s so fiercely hot that you can’t sit on the deck without some kind of shade , a shade umbrella or some protection would’ve been very useful . Guests are offered complimentary canapés at 5 pm which is a nice touch . However , what this actually amounts to is a singular oyster and a tiny croquette - this type of penny pinching seems really at odds with a supposedly luxury brand . Another unwelcome aspect is the hefty fees for credit card payments . There’s a small sign at the reception desk of course informing guests but given that I felt a bit ripped off anyway , to find that there was a $400 credit card fee was just too much . I ended up paying by transfer to avoid paying this fee but the process to organise this took nearly half an hour . The morning I was leaving for the airport , I confirmed with two staff that I needed transport into town - they forgot . Overall I was really underwhelmed . I think if you’re charging serious money per night , a better standard should be offered.

The best hotel we've ever stayed at. Our private villa had every luxury, including heated floors, a large jacuzzi bath, double sinks, electric fireplace and killer view over the lake with the mountains in the background. The staff went above and beyond to provide a first class stay in every aspect. We feel spoiled to stay anywhere else after our time at Azur.

We spent 3 lovely nights at Azur and thoroughly our stay. The setting is stunning and our villa (#6) was incredibly private, peaceful, and relaxing. The staff are very helpful and and eager to please - we enjoyed getting to know a few of them during our stay. Breakfasts were delicious and most afternoons we enjoyed the cocktails and canapés. We wish we could have enjoyed our patio more than we did but the fickle Southland weather wouldn't allow it, although we did enjoy sitting by the fireplace instead. Highly recommended!

As we were driving through the neighborhood surrounding the hotel I was getting a little concerned that it might not be all its cracked up to be - but we were not disappointed. Service is first class, staff are professional and friendly. The view is fantastic! Breakfast was amazing and served in our room. Car service to town was a plus as it meant you didn't need drive after you check in. Very clean and spacious villa with a cozy gas fireplace (we were in Villa 6 and it was very private). Expensive, yes, but for us it was a splurge that has left us with lasting memories of a wonderful stay in Queenstown - and that is priceless. Thanks to the Azur team for making our stay a special one.

Azur was in a stunning location, charming development, lots of privacy, and fantastic gracious hospitality made this a truly great stay. Sweeping views over the beautiful Lake Wakitipu are enhanced by a lovely garden with exotic trees and carefully tended shrubs and flowers. We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the careful attention to detail and every possible creature comfort. And soaking in the deep, deep bath looking over the lake was a treat!

For me, what makes a hotel tip-top is always the service. This lodge is not only spectacularly located with first class appointments and incredible views, but the team of people that work there make your visit a complete joy. Nothing is too much trouble. Everyone on the team is first class and the inclusions at Azur are tremendous. I would return in the blink of an eye, and recommend this experience to everyone!
