Honeymoon paradise

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 hours ago

We spent our honeymoon at Alila and enjoyed two weeks in a beach villa. We were absolutely amazed by the island! Alila has the perfect mix of luxury while still being humble, embrasses the nature that the island has to offer and pairs it with very high international standards (in regards to all the facilities as well as food & drinks). Most importantly, all staff members really made our honeymoon unforgettable! From our villa manager Sull, to the whole bar team at Mirusbar (Sandip and his team incl. the DJ), to the staff in the restaurants (Hafix and his team at Seasalt) - excellent service is lifed by every single staff member and it was incredible! We are looking forward to visiting again soon!

If you want an exclusive and high standard hotel in Maldives this is not the place for you.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Well… I start first with the positive aspects: 1. The architecture of the hotel is stunning! Every corner has a wow moment, we loved it a lot. Also the gardens, well cared, and the water (full of fishes) is stunning. 2. The food is 10/10. Very good taste, lot of choices and really high standard. This aspect impressed us a lot! Also the chef, Frank, came every time to ask if everything was good. 3. The barkeepers at Mirus bar are WOW! Best service we ever had. Sandip is the superstar of the bar! He works his ass off and is extremely attentive. We truly think he is the heart of this hotel. Everybody loves him! Also Upul is a great barkeeper! Thank you again, Sandip, Upul and your team, to take care so well of us! 4. Sami, cleaning our room, and Sali, working in Seasalt, were outstanding. Very kind and attentive. Also our villa host, Lily, tried always her best. She is very kind and attentive. Now the bad aspects: 1. Unfortunately, the service at Seasalt was not high standard. The employees really try their best, being attentive and have always a smile on their face, but we faced several “timing problems”, meaning our starter arrived without getting our wine, or the main course arrived directly even without finishing the starter, which felt us kind of “rushed”. Also they asked several times what we want to drink, when we already ordered the drinks. We were at the hotel 6 nights and this happened 5 of 6 nights. As costumer you pay a premium hotel and do not receive premium service. I really think it is not the problem of the staff (as they are very attentive and try their best) it’s more that the supervisors does not have a real control of what happens in the restaurant. 2. The hotel is “new”. The surprise was that the water taps in our room were anymore black, also the water taps at the community restrooms are loosing the colour. The window in our bathroom was broken. We informed the management and the water taps at our room were repaired the same day. Someone is not checking the furniture and situation of the rooms. 3. As said, after a some days we decided to write an email to the hotel management, as we noticed that we were not the only customers facing this problems and it was to much. The employees immediately talked to us, which was very good! Unfortunately, we are still waiting to receive an answer from the management. I felt upset, as we wrote a very detailed email to the management (in our vacation) to help to improve and nothing came back. 4. The hotel is still facing problems with the mosquitos. On the over water villas there are some, but it was okey. In the beach villas are lots of mosquitos, the fumigan a diario, tambien de día. Lo cual es molesto pues es veneno y paseas por la isla e inhalas el veneno que echan de dia. Seria mejor que echaran el veneno solo de noche. 5. The event ‘Boat to the table’ was not nice at all. Because of the name we thought there would be a lot of fish and it would be a nice event. It really felt like a Massenabfertigung. You had everything from hot pot to salad bar and only one plate on a small table with fresh cooked fish from the BBQ. All the customers of the hotel were there and it was difficult to get a nice table. I can not recommend it. 6. The beach at Umami felt kind of abandoned. E.g.: Arriving at 10:30 AM at the beach and no towels were available. Not only not placed on the sunbeds, but as well not placed anywhere which allows the guests to pick them by themselves. Aswell no cold water or other complementary beverage were available, very different experience to your pool area. As soon as we informed the staff some changes have been made. A girl from Singapore informed me that Alila Maldives is very famous on TikTok and it feels like they are fine with their ‘standard’, as they will be always booked because of this promotion on TikTok. Es hat sich leider eher nach einer Massenabvertigung angefühlt und nicht nach einem exclusiven Hotel. In a nutshell, the hotel is stunning and the food is excellent, but some changes should be done to feel like home and to be a high standard hotel. If you want an exclusive and high standard hotel in Maldives this is not the place for you.

Nice island with extremely friendly staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Staying at Alila was absolutely amazing. The service was very attentive and friendly and everyone was always keen to help us with whatever we wanted/ needed. We stayed for 5 days, which I think is the perfect amount of time, since the island is quite small and the food options get limited over time. I celebrated my 30th birthday on Alila and was treated like a princess. Basically got a little surprise for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition they prepared a super cute surprise in the room when we returned from dinner. Special thanks to Yoonus for everything!

Stunning luxury resort where you are treated as family …

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Highly recommend this luxury resort, where you will get an amazing experience of a lifetime. PROs: - Friendly staffs that treat you as a part of their family (our villa host Nasse were friendly and responsive, got the room serviced while we were out and explored the resort … even managed to get us a dinner reservation on short-notice when the restaurant was booked up for the evening, chef Frank walked around each tables during breakfast and made sure that guests were happy with their breakfast) - Stunning rooms, each with its own private pool - Globalist Social Hour, where globalists get complimentary cocktails and snack and hang out resort executive management team (we got to hang out with Grace and discussed our love for the Park Hyatt Zanzibar and Paris-Vendome, and then GM Thomas Weber on stories and up/down of working on this stunning little island) - Resort guests social hour, where all are invited to hang out with resort staffs watching the beautiful sunset while enjoying cocktails and snack (we got to hear stories from Loudhy and his experience working for Alila Maldives) - Alila Spa, treehouse spa (the massages were excellent) - All requests were fulfilled within a few minutes! CONs: - Expensive (especially for Asia … however, it is totally worthy) - Spicy food is not spicy at all (just add the resort-made sambal sauce to your dish … it is spicy and delicious)
