About the Hotel

Embodying the spirit of adventurous travel and cool Nordic design that dwells in its sister property Ion Adventure Hotel, the 18-room Ion City Hotel is the citified version of Ion’s original award-winning countryside retreat. Located in the heart of Reykjavik, with access to many shops, cafés, bars, and restaurants, Ion City is housed in a smartly renovated building that retains its original architectural beauty yet is augmented by outside walls featuring a motif inspired by traditional Icelandic weaving. Inside, guests discover luxuriously organic interiors defined by clean lines, Icelandic art, and a palette of gray and white, contrasted by warm-hued wooden floors. Here, a world of gunmetal grays, fine-grained woods, and regional design pieces are bathed in light that spills in through large windows that offer expansive panoramic views of Reykjavik. A stay at Ion City also includes farm-fresh cuisine, a go-to bar for locals, a gym, and a private dining room.

Reviews for ION City Hotel

Great location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel has a great location and smaller rooms only 18 rooms…. They do not honour any Marriott benefits for platinum or above including late check! They do not have a restaurant or any services. If you do book it make sure you have the address as it is difficult to find. Virginia at check in was amazing she is definitely 👍🏽 five star ⭐️ in service and personality. I would have booked the hotel higher if they recognized Marriott and not just used them as a reservation system

Favorite Place to Stay in Reykjavík!

We thoroughly enjoyed our most recent stay at Ion City Hotel! This was our 6th time staying here and they have never failed to impress us. The location can't be beat - it is mere steps away from all the restaurants, shops and bars the city has to offer. The rooms are clean, stylish and very cozy, boasting a stunning view of the mountains and bay. We even saw the Northern Lights from our balcony on this most recent stay. The beds are comfy and the shower has fantastic water pressure. Customer service is outstanding. Everyone is very warm, welcoming, friendly and happy to help. Special shout out to Virginia & Luciana who are amazing! We highly recommend Ion and look forward to our next stay!

Insomnia Central

Awful place. I dont care the room wasn’t cleaned and it had a youth hostel atmosphere. If you can’t sleep due to location and the noise of other guests partying, the hotel is not fit for purpose. We were offered a 30% discount on future bookings following our complaints. I wouldn’t stay if they paid me. If you like a sleep, avoid

Fine for a short stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

The Good: Location, modern, clean, well designed rooms. Neutral: No restaurant in the hotel, but plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. The Bad: No temperature control in the room. It was very warm and never cooled off. You can open the window, which helps, but noise from the street is very loud. There is a bar nearby that blasts loud music until 11pm.

Sleep in the heart of town

This hotel is right on a pedestrian only street conveniently in the middle of the old city. It is relatively small and besides sleeping rooms it has a main desk staffed with very friendly and helpful people. There is no restaurant, lounge, sitting room, pool, spa or other amenities. However it was all we needed for a couple day stay before getting on a cruise. It is associated with Marriott.
