The Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh

A luxurious palace in Saudi Arabia with excellent rooms, incredible breakfast and an indoor pool that looks like royalty. The reception is luxurious and gives you the feeling of staying in a real palace. Every detail is luxurious. There is a shopping mall next door that you can go to using the hotel's electric car.

I went there for a business appointment. The Ritz Carlton is well known. The only problem I faced was the distance between it and any other place, as it is far from the center of Riyadh, but in general it was very good and the service was excellent, as I am always accustomed to from them.

Drive up the beautiful landscaped entrance, fantastic view and architecture, concierge parked our car… all perfect. Then the fun and games began… We booked our stay using Marriott Vacation Club points as we had to use them before the end of 2024. Reception had no record of this. So for an hour we waited in reception whilst my husband phoned MVC head office (in another country, from his personal phone) and them and reception were conversing to try to sort it all out. Eventually they said go and check in but we need to put a pre-authorisation on for the whole room amount and IF it’s all sorted then we’ll refund it. Then we went for dinner; fantastic food and service and Azurra but only the Italian and Chinese were open. No steak restaurant that we had seen advertised. Bedtime comes, daughter (5) is asleep and there’s a knock on the door at 9:45pm delivering sweets and a note saying they wish us a good stay! 10pm the phone goes! Then there’s loud drilling / sawing that goes on until 11:20pm!! So no sleep! Decided then and there that we would check out first thing without using the swimming pool or having breakfast. Reception were apologetic upon checkout and said they would email the hotel managers, but I really don’t feel all of the above is acceptable from ‘One of the top 5 star hotels in the world’ according to the plaque proudly presented on arrival. We travel a lot and this has really put us off the Ritz Carlton brand.
