Reviews for Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa

Our favourite place

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

Where do I begin? We’ve just got back from the most amazing weekend at The Old Course. Every member of staff greeted us in the lobby or corridor, wherever we were in the hotel. Now this may seem like an obvious one but you’d be surprised how many 5 star hotels don’t do this!! We were staying for my daughter’s birthday and the staff went out their way to give her the best time. We were kindly upgraded which was so kind and we had a very spacious room to share the 3 of us. Our wee one loved her mini robe and slippers and her gift in the room. All the touches were so special and made our stay incredible. Even the staff in the restaurant knew our daughter’s name and were so attentive to us all. The food in the conservatory was lovely and there were plenty of choices to enjoy both evenings. Thank you for the best time. We can’t wait to be back to our favourite place!!!

Hotel living from past history and credibility.

We stayed for one night only, to be fair that was enough. We were upgraded to a beautiful room overlooking the 18th, the room was beautiful and very well presented however the biggest fault was it was two single beds put together to act as a double, this was an issue at night as both the beds were not the same height and caused problems to sleep. The hotel has current renovations ongoing just now, so we were seated in the Conservatory for dinner, the overall experience was very basic, the food was nothing special and the wine was very over priced. The only location we could have a light refreshment after our meal was the Swilcan Loft on the fourth floor, there were only two or three other couples situated in this bar, it emptied very quickly, a lovely bar and very well presented with friendly and pleasant staff. One of the biggest issues we had was the supplement of £40pp to use the Kohler Water Spa, this for me is a disgrace that paying guest should have to pay an addition cost to visit the Spa area. We did have complimentary access to this area between 07:00am - 10:30am to which we used, however this is the only 5* hotel we have visited that charges you an additional supplement to use the facility. Breakfast was average at best,it was served in the Conservatory, very very slow to receive the order of poached eggs, when they arrived they were cold and under done, we had to go between two separate rooms with your plate to the hot buffet trays if you required other items to eat. Overall a very average standard, definitely not what you would expect for 5*, average food, living of past name and service. Will not revisit.

Disappointed. High cost during refurb...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Our stay at the Old Course Hotel was a gift from a family member to honour a special occasion. The Hotel is being renovated yet the charge was still around £450 per room(!) We had limited choice for on site restaurants and had to walk long corridors with "wet paint" signs. The breakfast was distinctly average, having to go to a separate room with your plate to choose from 2 small tables of hot buffet trays. Also when will hotels EVER serve nice breakfast coffee?! The room felt luxurious and the beds were super comfy - we just felt let down by the hotel communal experience. Not sure I'd reccomend for the price.

Love this hotel, it’s worth every penny

We love this hotel. It oozes class, quality, golf and all round Scottishness ☺️. We paid extra for a view over the 17th - worth every penny waking up to the view, unbelievable. Breakfast was delicious - so much choice and so fresh. The staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for you. Can’t wait to return!

Stunning hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My husband and I visited for my birthday recently. He booked it as a surprise and told the hotel it was my birthday. We got some lovely champagne and canapes to celebrate which was much appreciated. The service at the hotel was fantastic. The room was stunning - a really good size, very clean with a lovely bathroom. Very comfy bed and a great view of the old course. We had lunch at the Jigger Inn which was amazing. Really cute pub, probably advisable to book a table as it's busy. We didn't book but were lucky enough to get seated. We had dinner in the conservatory and that was also great. I sadly never got to use the spa, so we will definitely be returning soon. It's very expensive but for a treat I think it's worth it. St Andrews is a great town, we visit frequently.
