Owned by native Antiguans, the 30 cottages at Cocos Hotel roost on a cliff and overlook iridescently clear waters, where deep blues and minty greens shimmer in streaks on the horizon. The best way to enjoy the view is swinging in a hammock suspended from the roof of each cottage’s rustic terrace, or drifting to sleep on the netting-enveloped princess bed. Chef Pam Clay's West Indian take on Tuscan cuisine attracts a local following.

My wife and I just returned from a 5-night stay at Antigua’s COCO’s resort. It was an incredible week – this small all-inclusive resort offers a unique Caribbean experience and a superb hospitality proposition. Picturesque individual cottages are peppered on a hill and offer different attractions – some have a pool, some are closer to the beaches/restaurant/bars, and some offer some of the finest sunset views one can imagine. We had sunset room 16, which is midway between the two sides of the resort, and has a nice balcony and outdoor shower (really cool). The beaches on either side of the resort are as unreal as it gets - turquoise waters and fine white sand perfect for swimming, floating in the sun, crazy scenery – I’m a Caribbean lover and these beaches are some of the finest I’ve seen. The bars (three) are generally always open and happy to stir you up a cocktail. The people working at this property (and Antiguans in general) are extremely hospitable folks and many went out of their way to make the experience special (Anisha and Waseba come to mind). Guests ranged in age wildly, but everyone was really nice – more Europeans than at other spots – we met some cool folks. The one restaurant is limited and a sit down experience but keep in mind there are only about 45 cottages, so it works, giving the eating experience a grade of civility and class. There is some entertainment but it’s not the highlight of this resort. The gardens and trees are amazing and home to many cool birds, none as cool as the pelicans who hunt fish in the morning hours. The nature is amazing, the place is exotic by many standards and we loved our stay. Is it for everyone? No, but it’s about what you are looking for. Being the resort is on a hill, it means you have to walk on some steep inclines (plus stairs) to get from the rooms to the two beaches and restaurant. Unless there are mobility issues this shouldn’t deter anyone, but yeah, hauling my 240lbs frame to my sunset view room was an effort after sitting in the sun all day, and having numerous gin and tonics (although some would argue the problem is w/me). The real issue is the fact that these pathways (up and down from the rooms) get slippery when wet, and it rains often enough – I slipped a few times in flip flops going down to breakfast. The food is ok, and superbly presented, but in my view, just mediocre. Island time is real, and that is also OK, but not at this price point – I expected more in both respects. Lastly, the property itself is lovely but needs a lot of repairs and updates. It rained hard one day, we had some water leaking in our room. Did I care? No, but I wasn’t looking to stay at the Ritz Carlton, I was looking to stay on a pristine beach in the Caribbean that made me feel like I was on a different planet – and this place delivers that experience. It’s about what you want.

Wonderful welcome and beautiful stay in a lovely place. Small boutique location made it feel very special. As said on the website the cottages are on hilly ground, not suitable for those with arthritis in knees or hips 🙄😬 Great part of the island with the best beaches. All inclusive menu was al la carte which was plentiful, great choice and lovely food.

Went with a group of friends (in our 40s) and had a wonderful time. The hotel is gorgeous, the staff are friendly, and food is wonderful. Set menu rather than buffet so the food is fresh and delicious, and the chef was so helpful and accommodating of food preferences.

If you're looking for a quiet, island vibe/feel for adults only COCOS Hotel is a great choice. WE loved our sunset view cottage. The staff was friendly and very attentive. We felt safe.
