Our Southern California hotel offers laid-back hospitality in an unpretentious and upscale setting. We combine vibrant artwork, music and design with culinary delights that match the authentic spirit of our downtown San Diego neighborhood. Our boutique hotel spaces weave together Mexican touches and San Diego’s effortlessly cool vibe for an inspired local experience. Blooming green ferns and an all-glass facade welcome guests into the curated lobby giving way to a casual café perfect for cold brews or cocktails. After a stroll through Balboa Park, a surf at the beach or a wander through the Gaslamp Quarter, catch some rays by the rooftop pool deck before migrating into our spirited destination dining. Once the glasses are empty and plates cleared, our plush suite and guestroom beds come calling. Rest assured — tomorrow looks just as bright.

5 out of 5! Are at the Alma restaurant and the food was amazing. The Cesar salad was delicious and had sliced sardines (much more delicious than it sounds!). Even better, Ellie provided excellent service and was very professional, attentive and friendly. Highly recommended!

I rarely write reviews, but after my stay at Alma, I feel it's important for other travelers to know what to expect before booking. Unfortunately, this hotel didn't meet my expectations for a four-star experience. The Cafe: The hotel offers a $35 per room dining credit, which is essentially an amenity fee, but there's only one place where you can use it – the cafe. This cafe is so busy that when I tried ordering room service, it took over 30 minutes just to place my order – and this happened two days in a row. If you decide to dine in, expect significant delays in getting your food as well. Parking: The valet parking is $60 per night, which is already quite high. Even though I called the front desk 15 minutes ahead to have my car ready, I still had to wait downstairs for it. The Rooms: I stayed in connecting rooms. The non-accessible room was small, and the shower design was strange. The half-glass partition left the entire bathroom floor soaked and slippery after every shower. Checkout: Make sure to thoroughly check your bill before leaving. In my case, they forgot to apply my Amex credit in one room, and in the other, they missed applying a $35 dining credit. Traveling with a toddler is challenging enough, and unfortunately, my experience at this hotel only made things more frustrating.

Popped into Alma to have a few drinks while we were enjoying SD. Rooster not only was awesome, his character and funny personality was so amusing, he kept us long past our “one drink” stop and stayed for hours!! We will be back for sure. Please list his working hours for us so that we can plan around his schedule!!
