Jay Jones provided exceptional service!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Jay Jones did a great job at a business event! She provided guidance on parking, plus she helped transport me to the front so I could be on the shuttle. I appreciate her help! Jay did an awesome job of helping others navigate to available parking, as well. Much appreciated!

Locked out of Room...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I had the room booked for two nights. Initially, there was confusion during the check in over number of nights but it was all sorted out as my host from the sponsoring organization came down to front desk and sorted everything out. I was confirmed the two nights and went about my business. The next day I got a knock on the door around 1130am by the room service team and was told I need to vacant the room because I'm past the checkout time. I told the gentleman that I have the room for two nights and kindly go check with the front desk team. Later on, I left the room and came back later to find my room locked and keys not working. I was locked out from my room, total embarrassment. After going through all the back and fourth, got my room opened. Then had to go through further back and fourth to get my room confirmed again. No ownership or accountability from management side. I'm planning to visit San Diego again next week and really wanted to stay at the property due to its lovely location and architecture. But after this experience, I would suggest others stay away too. No form of compensation or anything was offered to apologize for the inconvenience.

Hard to find location. Room not cleaned on a regular basis. Meeting long distance from sleeping room with NO transportation between. Tried to call for golf cart ride - no response.

Nice But Inconvenient

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The hotel looks very nice, has a nice pool and hot tub, a very nice restaurant along with some lesser expensive restaurants. Beware if you have mobility issues, though. There is NO ELEVATOR in the hotel. We were placed on the second floor; my wife has problems with stairs so this was difficult for her. Also, the rooms DO NOT have microwaves. You must call the front desk and borrow one. You have to call the front desk again when you are finished using the microwave. The hotel is at the end of a long residential street. There are no shops or restaurants within walking distance. The water bottles at the hotel cost $10 each, as do the tiny, tiny snacks tins. Fortunately, we brought drinks and snacks with us. The Avant restaurant served exquisite food; however, my wife has multiple unusual allergies, and there must have been some cross contamination as she had severe diarrhea that night after eating there. The concierge was exceptional. She assisted both my wife and myself. She also was able to direct my wife to a styling salon that did an exceptional job with her hair. The bell cap service was also exceptional, but those poor men had to lug all our luggage up and down the stairs. We felt sorry for them! A nice hotel, but inconvenient if you don’t have transportation and possibly inconvenient if you have mobility issues.

A Perfect Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I haven't written a review in a long while but this place was so exceptional I feel I owe it to them. Our family stayed five nights, over Thanksgiving and into December, in two rooms. I'm not sure how to convey in words the feeling of calm and relaxation that the utter quiet; tasteful, beautiful gardens and spacious grounds conferred, or how without fail every single employee was friendly, kind, and helpful. (our check out form asked us to name names, but I wasn't reading their name tags, and great staff was so numerous) I should note that the walls and doors are so thick that you don't hear noise from other guests. We were surprised to discover there was a crying baby in the room next door, because we didn't hear a peep. The highlights of our stay, aside from priceless family togetherness time which is ever more rare, included daily breakfasts at Cafe Granada, some brunches at Veranda, and daily laps in the adult pool each morning. I should add that even though the early morning air temps were in the 40s or 50s, the pool was heated sufficiently (I was told 84 but it seemed warmer) so that it was comfortable. And of course the hot tub was right there for a quick dip afterwards. I have only a few caveats to offer. The hotel has no elevators, so be sure to let them know if you don't want stairs. You may have to call to arrange housekeeping service if you had your do not disturb sign up even briefly the first time they came. And by all means take off the do not disturb sign if you want the lovely bedside chocolates at turn-down time (5 pm)! And now, please excuse me while I busy myself thinking up excuses to return.

Rancho Bernardo is one of the most enchanting inns in the U.S. The fountains are well worth the attention they command in artwork. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable beyond belief. Absolutely love this piece of heaven.
