When railroad tycoon Frederick William Vanderbilt built the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, part of the Legend collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, in 1919 it was Puerto Rico's only luxury hotel – President and Eleanor Roosevelt stayed here, part of a long list of notable guests. If the architecture looks familiar, it might be because the design firm also drew up the plans for New York's Grand Central Terminal. Graceful archways and sweeping staircases remain intact in this fully restored landmark, which presides over the Atlantic Ocean with two guestroom towers that are sumptuously modern.

It took just 10 years for this hotel to go from a new, gleaming boutique hotel to a run-down, disorganized mess. Between the fire alarm going off 3x in the middle of the night, dirty bathrooms, spotty service, the smell of marijuana wafting through the central air, midnight fireworks on hotel property and outrageous prices - this is the worst "upscale" hotel I've ever stayed in.

From the moment we arrived, Pablo and his team made us feel so welcome. Pablo even remembered us from last year when we asked to switch from one hotel to the Vanderbilt. Pablo made arrangements for us to move and took care of all the details. At the pool, server Ana was next level! So warm and attentive. Pool attendant Manuel always remembered our favorite spot. It was raining one day so we went decided to go to the spa where Dagmarie and her incredible team (Cesar, Cindy, Glenda and Allison) absolutely spoiled us. Amazing service and professionalism. No detail was overlooked during our stay. We never got to meet our housekeeping staff, but they were incredible. Our room was sparkling clean and had every amenity. This is one of those hotels where the splurge is totally worth it. We are already planning our next stay and cannot wait. Thank you team Vanderbilt for a glorious week!

Although the hotel is beautiful, the prices at the restaurants and bars are awful. What we thought would be a special vacation became a huge money grab. I hate having to look for meals offsite due to cost and navigate a strange place. But c'mon. $49 per person for breakfast buffet? Although the service was perfect and the location is incredible, we would not choose this hotel again. If you're not willing to pay exorbitant prices for meals you might want to look elsewhere

This place was so fabulous. Our suite was glorious and we spent 5 nights truly enjoying all of Condado and the hotel's pools, food & beverage and beach. The staff was very attentive - the concierge booked us on two excursions VERY easily. We didn't eat much on property, but we LOVED lunch at Tacos & Tequila. Our *only complaint was how delayed check in was (we couldn't get into our room until after 5pm) but the suite made it totally worth it.

I have been staying at the Vanderbilt several times since it opened, as well as having stayed at most other hotels in the Condado area. Sadly the Vanderbilt is no longer worth the money it charges. The rooms are now in need of complete remodel and noise reduction/thicker walls definitely needed as you can hear everything room to room. Leaves a lot to be desired for what they charge. Downstairs/common amenities are very good otherwise as is the staff. Won't be staying again until a renovation is done. The AC Marriott nearby is better value for money with modern rooms, also La Concha.
