When railroad tycoon Frederick William Vanderbilt built the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, part of the Legend collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, in 1919 it was Puerto Rico's only luxury hotel – President and Eleanor Roosevelt stayed here, part of a long list of notable guests. If the architecture looks familiar, it might be because the design firm also drew up the plans for New York's Grand Central Terminal. Graceful archways and sweeping staircases remain intact in this fully restored landmark, which presides over the Atlantic Ocean with two guestroom towers that are sumptuously modern.

Beautiful place, great location, question value for money. Room is a great size and bathroom has 2 sinks (know that is important for some 😀) the room we had though had a bad view, avoid 330 if view is important. I didn’t complain to hotel as we are not in the room enough to care.

Excellent luxurious hotel. We had two balconies in the suite with one facing the city the other the ocean. We had a butler and were treated like celebrities. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. The food in the hotel and throughout the island is very expensive make sure you get the package that includes breakfast buffet as it’s huge and otherwise runs $22 per day.

Beautiful historical hotel in San Juan. Excellent facilities and staff. We had an issue during our stay, NOT the hotel’s fault, and Veronica the FOM dealt with it so well. She was amazing. The hotel was impeccably clean and the location is amazing.

We have a home there for vacations , but I wanted to take my Mom to sit by pool and enjoy herself. She’s been sad since my Dad died. They were 63 years married. Well she loved it , so much we’re going back for a couple of more days when we visit. Service was excellent. We even lost the electricity, but generators turned on. Looking forward to my next stay.

Disappointing stay at a supposed 5-star restaurant despite a wonderful experience otherwise in Puerto Rico last week. The Spa and the Staff are the best things about this hotel - but even the staff had its share of bad apples. We actually saw our waiter roll his eyes and scowl when our breakfast table with 6 seats around it went from serving 1 couple who arrived at 9 AM… to 2 couples (next one arrived at 9:15 AM) … to 3 couples in our party (the final couple in our group showed up at 9:30 AM. Really? How hard is it to have 3 separate checks for 1 large table?). Anyway, the “Heritage King” room we got was undersized, overly expensive, unclean, and had outrageous mini bar prices on alcohol. No room upgrade was available despite asking - yet our 2 other couples that checked in 4 hours later both received upgrades. Our room WAS available for early checkin - which we appreciated. But that same room and the hallway from the elevator to our room had debris all over it (sand, coconut “hair” was my guess). The bed was extremely comfortable - but only one sleeping pillow on each side? Come on. No hangers in our room at checkin. Hair on the bathroom floors and near our bed suggests minimal cleaning between guests. 5-star hotel? NOT in my book. At checkin, we were 3rd in line but still waited almost 15 minutes to get to speaking with a human being. No Concierge staff was even at their station to speak with to get recommendations. Every time I went by the front desk the first 2 days - still no Concierge to speak with. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, giving tips on where to go in Old San Juan and the local area. Meals were just Ok. Food and beverages were middle of the road - but pricey and small portions. Coffee at breakfast was plain awful. Note - All the meals we had outside the hotel (and even the coffee at nearby cafes) was spectacular - so we are not hard to please.
