We had such a great time at El Convento. Beautiful historic hotel. Rachel (at the front desk) made the stay exceptional. She was so nice, so kind, and so helpful. She went above and beyond to help us and provided excellent service. Sh le is truly a gem.

Another great stay at my favorite hotel on the island.

This is my second stay at El Convento and it was even better than the first(Which is sayong a lot because the first was great.) I love this hotel. It is located directly across the street from the Cathedral, a short walk from all the shops, and near some great restaurants. (La Caleta, which is directly across the Plaza Doña Fela on Caleta de San Juan has the best french toast I've ever had!). The staff is super super friendly, knowledgeable of the area and always happy to give directions and advice. (A special shout out to Candysbeth and Giancarlo. They were my go-to people whenever I had a question about anything.) The rooms are roomy and comfortable. Each room has a mini fridge, a coffee maker and all the other necessities. (My room had an ironing board and an iron. I would have preferred a steamer. I never checked to see if one was available at the front desk.) It was another memorable stay and I look forward to many more.

An Unexpected Gem of a Hotel with Very Thoughtful Staff.

We made a last minute reservation as our Honeymoon was rerouted from Bermuda to San Juan due to Hurricane Ernesto. Found this hotel after a quick Google search, and was so fortunate to find this gem. The hotel is impeccably maintained, and located in the heart of San Juan. The building architecture with rooftop pool and hot tub, along with the hotel’s welcoming staff turned this into one of our most memorable hotel stays. The hotel staff greeted us with Champaign along with a room upgrade too, which completely won us over. Their front desk staff, led by Candy, always greeted us with a smile and provided us with a few wonderful restaurant recommendations. Thank you Hotel El Convento for making our honeymoon such a memorable occasion. We will definitely be returning!

Lost its charm

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Beautiful Spanish structure and common areas, but the rooms were modernized after a remodel. We had stayed there before and loved it; this time, as we walked into the room and saw the new look were completely let down. It looked like any nice big chain hotel, not matched to the hotel theme. We then went to grab some tapas at their restaurant, Patio Del Níspero. Excited to see a good Spanish wine selection, we were disappointed to see only one by the bottle and one by the glass (Albariño, of all choices - not even a basic Rioja). Where were the other wines from? California. Seriously? I asked the bartenders and they were embarrassed, admitting that things were “different” under the new administration. Finally, they had assured us (twice) that there was valet parking at the lot across the street, but we learned that the lot did not accept outside guests during weekend evenings so as to have the lot ready for Mass the next day. Oh, and no one tells you that you need to use your key (an actual key) for the elevator, we could have saved some time trying to figure out why it wasn’t working (and no, we weren’t the only ones - this wasn’t obvious as with card keys). It was otherwise a nice stay, but unfortunately we will not return.

Excellent experience 👏

We had a great time at Hotel el Covento in Old San Juan, PR. It is beautiful. Our best experience happened at the El Patio del Nispero. Awesome time. Victor Perez is a great bartender. Very knowledgeable about the history of the hotel, San juan, and the menu. Wonderful recommendations from him. The drinks were fabulous, and the food was excellent. The tres leche was out of this world!!! We definitely would go back.
